I awoke from my pleasant dream
To the cawing of a midnight raven
We exchanged glowers, each with a scheme
I wanted it out of my safe haven
“Spying on my dreams, you foul bird?”
I glared as I reached for a candle stand
It flapped its wings “that’s absurd!”
“I’m a simple crow; now hold out your hand”
I held out my hand, unsure why
“Don’t play tricks with me, I’ll scream!”
It jeered “I wouldn’t even try!”
“I can give you all that you dream”
“For you see, I’m not just a raven
I am the child of the Raven God
I really can see peoples’ dreams now and then
But I feel threatened by your candle rod.”
I put the candelabra on the floor
“Why should I trust you, demonic raven?”
He cawed “just see what I have in store”
Does this evil raven consider himself a maven?
We’ll just have to see
I held out my hand once more
Its eyes glinted in the jackal moon
And scratched my hand like an angry bore
It took flight, cawing its evil tune
“You’ll never be able to write again!”
The demon let out a cackle
“I knew you were a scripter!”
It sneered and flew off
The stupid bird lied!
I didn’t get all that and more!
I called back to him, quoting “Nevermore!”
