It never took a person much to pick that
One out of a crowd and not because she was
Of the few
Children
To be found among those at the funeral
Those eyes those
Placid blue eyes
Somehow
Could remain unclouded and dry when
Any other pair would be flooded with
Tears endlessly the tears
Pale skin not a breath to be made and eyes
Forever shut
Death
She understood that concept well enough
Finality end of the road no more chances
Still her blue eyes would only
Blink
The faces lying among
Fluffy white cotton were vaguely
Distorted
Familiar
You knew them she was told and they spilled out
Some intelligible reason blurred by obscurity
Her heart yet remained
Unmoved and calm
Slowly the pages of the calender
Fell away
At each death a funeral
Others would pass her and utter words of
Comfort and supposedly soothing touches
To ease the pain not there
Still her blue eyes would only
Blink
Then it happened the death no one expected the
Closest yet to them
The grave site was crowded
This time too with her vastly aged form now she
Was a teenager with a expected sense of
Maturity compassion and respect
Some stopped her to ask
How she was handling it
Losing her
Law-given grandmother and if she felt
Sadness
At all
No
The word rang out
I'll never forget the words she uttered then
Mourning death was just as pointless
As fearing it
The uttered words silenced and the hands
Pulled away in distaste she could
See
Still her blue eyes would only
Blink
I have to doubt that she's changed much
With the years
"Death is nothing
But a unavoidable means to an end"
Still her blue eyes can only
Blink

Description:
There isn't much to say, I think. I took a creative writing class and he asked for a free-form poem.
I wrote one about myself and my perception of death.
Enjoy. ;3 - Date: 08/08/2008
