• Her life was full of the music of Pern,
    As she wandered from town to town.
    The people would gather to hear her news,
    As she watched them gather round.

    A Harper you see had a duty to do,
    For that they were highly sought after.
    For had it not been for the Harper's of Pern,
    No one would know rider from crafter.

    The riders you see came from all over Pern,
    To impress the great winged dragons.
    Whose purpose in life was to flame from the skies,
    The Thread, which fell from the Red Planet.

    The dragons were mighty and bonded with rider,
    Their minds; each one with the other.
    In colors of brown, green, blue, gold and bronze,
    They flew through the skies as brothers.

    She traveled from crafthall to village to hold,
    Conveying the news of the day.
    Her songs full of life and of trials to come,
    As she plied her skill on the way.

    She came from a fishing town down near the sea.
    From a family who fished for a living.
    But her heart did not belong to the blue,
    Hers was a heart full of song and of giving.

    Her father against it, she left for the Hall;
    She would not be bound to the sea.
    The journey was hard and a long one at that,
    As she wandered for days through the trees.

    Then on the fifth day she came to its edge,
    And saw in the distance before her;
    The towers of blue, which denoted the Hall
    Of the Harper’s of Pern and her future.
