Forbidden Tears
When everyone is asleep,
I climb the mountain.
My silken robes trail the rough ground.
Hair ornaments sparkle in the moonlight.
At the top, my flute pours a melody.
My tears fall like grey diamonds
into the fog.
As any goddess ever loved a mortal,
so I love you.
But I belong to another.
Up here, it is another time and place.
Alone where no one can see,
I am someone else entirely.
If there is any time in this life,
I will be waiting for you
here on the mountain
between heaven and earth
