• I am the Widemouth Blindcat,
    An aquatic resider;
    As a predator become I fat,
    My skin has not color;

    A Toothless Blindcat am I,
    And a tooth, not, have I to spare;
    Scavenge I the aquifer,
    Unseen am I, here or there;

    Through fountain I dart,
    In the San Marcos and Comal am I found;
    Feed I on alga and larvae,
    My skin is reddish-brown;

    Gambusia of San Marcos,
    On larvae do I feed;
    Foundn’t since ’83,
    ‘Cept ‘neath this reed;

    Marcos’ own salamander,
    Submerged ‘neath head-weed;
    Brown and yellow am I,
    On larvae and snails do I feed;

    Same ‘cept of Texas,
    And in a daze;
    Uncolored and translucent,
    ‘Mid Purgatory Creek shall you find trace;

    Untame rice of Texas,
    In constant degree do I stay;
    Amidst the head of San Marcos,
    An aquatic grass, I shall play
