• Watermelon Bubblegum

The taste of dust in my mouth,
Cotton like fluff clogging my throat.
    My ragged breaths barely stirring
    The cobwebs on my face.

    The smell of smoke,
Even through the dust and grime
    tickles my nose.

    Suddenly, fat drops of water
    Splatter on me,
    Though barely denting the layer
    Of dust upon my skin.

Soon it starts falling hard and fast,
    Cleaning dust covered skin.

    Then,
    Suddenly, descending on me from
    The rain clouds above,
    Comes my rescuer.

    I couldn't see their face,
My eyes still blinded by dust
    But I felt their hands
    As they were thrusting them
    Into my hair.

    Fingers entangled in the wet,
    Dust covered tresses
    Gently pull me up
    Until I feel their lips,
Soft and warm against my own.

They pull away from my lips,
    Dry and cracked.
    Then with a single breath
The dust and cobwebs are blown away.

I open my eyes but only just,
    Unable to see my savior
My eyes blinded by the new,
    Bright light shining on me.

They left before my sight returned.
    I never saw their face
    But I remember their kiss.

    It tasted like watermelon bubblegum.
