• Broken Hearts

    When he broke your heart,
I didn’t know what to do.
Because when I saw you crying,
    Mine fell to pieces too.

Now both our hearts are broken,
    Bleeding raw and red.
The next day I went up to you,
And this is what I said:

    “It’s okay to cry.
I know what you’re going through.
There’s no need to feel ashamed,
‘Cuz I’m going through it too.”

    “It always breaks my heart,
    When I know you’re his.
Now my heart is red and raw
    Because you’re here like this.”

“I’ve loved you since the day we met,
    It’s only been two years.
Every time I see you with him,
It breaks me down in tears.”

I’ve never met someone like you,
    I can admit it now.
I always tried to tell you this,
    But never knowing how”.

Now I pour out, my heart to you.
    Just listening, waiting to hear,
Exactly what you’ll say to me,
It’s the biggest thing I fear.

Now waiting, for you to speak.
    As I look away,
You lay your hand upon my cheek
    And then you finally say:

“I too loved you, that day we met,
    Two short years ago.
But I sat back, as the years went by,
    To watch our friendship grow.”
“I knew it then, of that I’m sure,
    I even know it now.
I too tried to tell you this,
    Though never knowing how.”

Both our hearts are now each other’s,
    Still bleeding, raw and broken.
Over the years, I cannot believe,
    I left those words unspoken.
