• Snow Goddess

    Winter comes, cold and dead
Sending dark thoughts into most people's heads
But the snow comes all beautiful and white
This is enough to make you forget any plight

The Snow Goddess grants us this beautiful gift
As she dances through the trees light and swift
Her heart is that of ice, and cannot know love
Accept for her snow that she sprinkles from above

She sings in the trees with her soft, sweet voice
While all of the snow sprites loudly rejoice
In the day she blocks the sun, and at night the moon
With her soft icy melodies making the little sprites swoon

The snow she creates makes her smile with glee
And knowing that she'll forever be free
The snow around her icy and cold
Oh, what a sight to behold!

While all the people in the village huddle in their beds
Visions of summer dancing in their heads
She sits there and dreams of everything winter
Always knowing the power of snow is forever with her

One day a stranger passes silently by
Into the snow and mist falling from the sky
He enters her domain of snow and ice
Stumbling across a tree of solid white ice

He finds this odd and looks to the top
With a tiny snowflake soaring down with a single drop
He sees a startled young maiden with icy blue hair
And a strange blue symbol on her forehead; he stared

Her skin was like crystal, paler than the moon
He felt his heart race, wishing it not to be over soon
He smiled up at her with a twinkle in his eyes
A beautiful young maiden, what a great surprise!

He beckons her down with a wave of his hand
The Snow Goddess just looked puzzled, she didn't understand
What did this strange man want with her?
Such an odd thing to have occurred!

Gracefully, she glided down from her frozen tree
The young boy's face just shined at her lovely sight to see
He led her away from her cold, dark world
As her snow covered kimonos became unfurled

He showed her to a garden untouched by the cold
With beautiful blossoms she longed to hold
She had never seen such greenery in all her life
But granted, this small fact never caused her strife

She reached out her hand to touch a small bloom
But by her cold touch it was consumed
Frightened by her icy power's damage she pulled away
The shock over came her and made her tremble and sway

The young boy ran to catch her as she fell
Then all of the emotions inside her began to swell
Silent tears came to her eyes
Then froze over with no great surprise

The young boy led her away by seeing her distress
But by being away didn't make her hurt any less
She wept all that day and all that night
The true extent of her power's nature gave her fright

All this time when she had created her snow
She thought nothing of the things around her that had to die and go
Slowly the stranger eased her pain
And the sky grew dark as it began to rain

The maiden of snow and man so strange huddled in a cave till the night had passed
The rain had stopped for a while at last
The young boy soon fell in love with the goddess of snow
His heart knew from the beginning, so he just had to let her know

He had to propose to her right then and there
The sakura trees all around outside in a brilliant flare
The Snow Goddess consented with a small soft smile
But then she thought back to her winter home and thought she could be gone for a short while

She decided to give up her life of snow and ice
For this young man that seemed so nice
They were married in the midst of spring, under the sakura's blooms
A beautiful ceremony with a festival that went through noon

So she started her life with this new young man
While her mind raced, her powers slipping like sand
She couldn't help but think that there was something always missing
Her life of singing and little sprites listening

She became a shell, not truly herself
She slipped into despair, and very bad health
    She no longer saw snow
And soon what she once was, she didn't even know

Her young husband didn't know what to do
So he tried to remember tales of goddesses from his youth
He remembered that snow goddesses had cold, dead hearts
And that she probably never loved him from the start

All this time he spent his love on her
He finally realized he would never get any in return
So in order to save what little life she had left
He carried her back as he silently wept

By then she was so weak, she couldn't even move
He stroked her cool skin, which was still very crystal-like and smooth
He finally made it back to her icy cold tree
While all of the little sprites smiled with glee

She opened her eyes to see her beautiful home
And remembered her powers that she had long kept unknown
Her sad young husband left with a heavy heart
While all of the snow was beginning to start

The beautiful Snow Goddess smiling as happy as can be
She was finally home, finally free
She sat in her tree and sang songs of snow
Whether she knew of the blossoms that were dying, no one knows

Though her sad young husband often came to visit
It hardly seemed that she even missed him
No matter how hard he tried he couldn't part with her
He knew that he would always love this maiden of winter

He kept coming back day after day
Until he was no longer young but old and gray
Though he had aged, the young Snow Goddess remained the same
Her beautiful looks, hair, and frame

He came to gaze just on her face
Her beautiful features no one could erase
Although he knew that she had never loved him
He didn't care; he was content on her always being above him

He would never give back the years he wasted gazing up at her
Watching her happiness soar like a bird
He watched her create her snow and ice in the sky
And listening to her voice till the day was nigh

He withered away gazing up at her
Until his death, his body set on a pyre to be burned
As the smoke rose from his body in the far off distance
Her soul secretly longed to be with him

When the young goddess realized what had happened
She jumped from her tree in order to find him
She reached his body consumed by flame
And lowered her head afraid, ashamed

All this time she really had loved him
She didn't marry him on a single whim
Everyday she looked forward to his visits
Even though she never really showed knew how to show it

As she watched his body slowly being burned
Her heart shattered, falling in turn
Out of all of the snow goddesses in the entire universe
She was the first one to fall to this curse

Out of her sorrow and misery, and all her self-loathing
She ran into the fire, it quickly closing
The flames lapped at her pale, smooth skin consuming her once and for all
Until there was nothing left but ashes to fall

She was the first snow goddess to ever love
And everyone could see her joyful spirit floating above
She clung to her beloved tightly as she flew up in the sky
Up they went going higher and higher

The goddess of snow, ice, and cold
Was consumed by fire, low and behold!
But her and her love's spirits were happy to be free
And she knew that now were truly meant to be...
