• We stormed into the hospital,
    “Please Help! Emergency!”
The doctor said, “What Happened here?”
    “She fell ill suddenly”

They put you on a gurney
    Rolled you away quite quick
He yelled ahead, “Find me a bed!
    This woman’s very sick!”

    Pacing in the waiting room
    I listened for a sign.
    Anything to let me know
    That everything was fine.

I thought my worried mind would rest
When the doctor I did meet.
But then he said so solemnly,
“You might want to take a seat.

I’m sorry to give this report
    About you fiancé.
It’s bad news of the gravest sort
She’s not long in this world to stay.”

    “How could this happen?
    What’s the cause?
Can’t you pull her from death’s claws?”

“We haven’t found the reason yet
And she is fading very fast.
    We’re doing everything we can
But I don’t know how long she’ll last.”

    I ran to your room
But was stopped at the door
    By a terror and pain
    I’d never felt before

    I took a breath
    And stepped inside
    I knew at once
    He had not lied.

    Standing still beside your bed
I knew not what to do or say
But that was when you turned your head
And told me, “It’ll be okay.”

    All at once
    The lights were flashing
    The nurse ran in
    And yelled, “She’s crashing!”

    The sound on the monitor
    Was losing speed
    So I grabbed a doctor
    And started to plead.

    “What is it!?
    Please make it stop!
I can’t just watch her heart rate drop!

There must be something you can do!
    Please! Anything!
    I’m begging you!”

    “We’ll do everything we can
To try to save your lover
    But I cannot promise you
    That she will recover.”

    Twenty minutes later
They came out of the door
One doctor walked to me and said,
“I’m sorry, we can do no more.

There are still a few minutes
But, I’m sorry, she will die.
So this will be your final chance
    To tell her goodbye.”
