You can do nothing unless you try.

I understand this. It's basically saying that you're alone when you're sad, and no one's there to comfort you. It's also saying that you can't do anything to fix it and move on with your life unless you try, so you can't look someone in the eye and lie, saying stuff like "I'm fine" or "Nothing's wrong"
