With nothing to lose and the world to gain
“I cant just do nothing” speaks this child with no name
He tells me his story, a simple stranger
but to most there could be no stranger
I turn to see his mother passing by; i see that gleam in his eye
my mouth opens to speak but in the back of my mind… I know
A child rises, opens his eyelids
stuck in the same placesm with the same faces living out the phases of his life
He puts on his nikes cause its all he’s worth
tells his dad hey I’m gonna go to work
The people he serve pay him to attention
but his work is the only escape from the tension
to everyone he is that blessed son
but in his life he is the only one
the only one who no one see
who no one listens
who doesnt shine
who doesnt glisten
the one person who wished he could die but could still smile in other’s eyes
You must be so proud your father was a hero
he lived his life in the shadow of that zero
a man with his life to stake
never thought of the lives he’d take
and that day the headlines read
fatal crash
2 injured
2 others dead
He puts on his nikes cause its all hes worth
no one in the house to tell he’s gonna go to work
Earphones in, runnin to a beat
boom tap boom boom boom tap
in a race he hears no clap no sound no fear
cause really all he needs is right in here
legs are burning forever eternal
much like the flame of that poet’s inferno
he’s gunnin for the top, racin for his spot
only to get beat a couple seconds off the clock
3 AM and no one knows who I am
Just a fly on the wall just watching waiting for him to fall
he sits there all night moving only to turn a page
staying up this late isnt healthy for a boy his age
In a flash things turn
tears stream his face begins to burn
normal people would be asleep this time of night
but for him it takes this long to get it right
With nothing to lose and the world to gain
“I can’t do nothing” speaks this child with no name
He tells me his story, a simple stranger
but to most there could be no stranger
I turn to see his mother passing by; i see that gleam in his eye
my mouth opens to speak but in the back of my mind…
I know
