• The spring she loved with the morning dew
The spring she loved the flowers that bloomed anew
The spring she loved the sweet birds whose songs flew
Running, laughing smiling, doing what children do.

Then the sun burns across the land
    Laughing louder, running faster
She loved the sand on her feet and
The wind blowing across her legs
No worries till later and old faces will soon mix with new
Soon the sky darkens and the days grow short
The air is crisp and the wind fierce.
The trees hug one another and the birds fly in groups
She watches and listen to the dead world.
She waits for it to end as the trees have another in the unforgiving world
The birds long gone and the bears sleep in their dens.
She still waits and watches and listens and then
The wind winter calls to her
    But she resists and instead
She wraps her arms around herself and
    Walks against the wind.
It blows in her face but still she moves on.
Forces push against her and she stubbles
But she pushes herself up and forward
She sees a shed and she thinks she’s saved
The fire glows though the window and the heat hovers to her
Warming her red cheeks and nose
She walks faster and hugs tighter
    She opens and sees nothing
The fire has burnt out and the coldness sets in
She turns to the door and walks out
And embraces the sweet merciful hug of the wind.
