• I See

As I walk through the room
    I see you
    Sitting in your chair,
    looking out the window.
    I see you smile
As you look off into the distance.

What is it that you see?

Are you seeing the first time you met your husband?
Or is it the other guys before him,
And all the fun that you had?

All I see when I look out the window are trees and flowers.

    As I sit down, I hear the crack of thunder and turn to see the rain;
But when I turn to you,
    I see you
    Looking out the window,
with a tear in your eye.

What is it that you see?

Is it your first heart break?
Or just a sad book that you have read?
Is it the time that you thought you would lose
    Someone that you loved?
Or could it be all the times you watched your children walk down the aisle,
To the ones that they love?

All I see is the rain,
Pouring down hard as lighting danced across the sky.

I am outside in the garden,
    Checking my roses.
I see you looking out the window and laughing.

What is it that you see?

Could you be seeing your babies take their first steps?
Could it be that you see your child chasing after your grandbaby,
And the toddler getting the better of their parents?
Or are you seeing your great grand babies
Playing around outside in your front yard,
    With your stone frogs?

All I see out here are cars driving by
    And cats on the porch.

As I walk through the house
    And in the garden
Or even as I stay at home on a rainy day,
    You are no longer here.

But every time I walk by that window
    And look at that chair
I will always see you there.
