Reverend Dimmesdale
Tainted saint whose heart will not embrace
Those loving eyes that trust your face
Father, will you walk, hand in hand,
With thy iniquity?
With thy Child ?
The darkness closing in upon you
Quenches the light you hold so dear.
So many faces, so many hearts
Strain to hear of the god you once held near
Who can you trust with your dying heart?
What evils lurk within your domain?
Father, don’t abandon your children
Father, your hopes are in vain.
Slowly dying with a self inflicted curse
No one believes your self-accusing words
Behind your curtain lies a darker world
With your dying heart and black secrets
Good reverend, father will you pray
That the love you feel is indeed pure?
When you sleep you toss and turn
Purest sin, darkest faith
“One cannot show one’s face to the public
And another to himself
Without eventually wondering
Which one is real .”
Father, are you real?
Father, can you hear?
The bells are tolling for you.
The gates of heaven and hell
Both call out for you.

- I like it!! We just finished reading the scarlet letter in english. The only thing i would do is take out that quote, it's out of place and the poem works without it.
