Chapter 4

"So, you don't remember your name or where you even came from. You can't remember anything past you waking up on a battlefield." I nodded. "Hmm...you, my friend, have a serious case of amnesia. But those voices in your head I am not so sure about." My hope went down a little. I stood up and tried to walk a bit. "Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Father Aeolus. I'm a priest obviously. The Wizard over there is known as Serim. The Hunter is Beth." I winced a little. "My name...is...is..." I stopped and then it hit me. " My name is Maverick." Aeolus looked surprised. "Ahh! See? You are already remembering things!" I smiled weakly to acknowledge him. "I still can't remember anything else. I was on a journey to find some info on what happened on recent events. I was headed to Prontera." Aeolus smiled. Well...Here ya are!" The Wizard approached me. "Maverick? Is it? Your power is great and also dangerous. You don't want to attract any attention here. If there is a problem in the city, it's best to avoid it." I nodded in agreement with him. "Don't worry about him Serim. He should be fine. There is rarely any violence in this city." Beth gave me a wink. I could feel my face turning red. I headed out the door to find a wide street filled with a variety of people. There were many knights patrolling the area as well. I decided to do a little snooping in the crowds to see if maybe anyone was talking about anything interesting. "Did you hear about what happened at Geffen the other day?" I heard a female mage say. I had turned in her direction but had kept walking the same way. "Oww!" I had bumped into a woman wearing a black coat. Her crimson hair flowed down her shoulders. "Oh! I'm sorry ma'am!" She gave me a smile. "It's okay. Gotta go!" She hurried past me, apparently in a rush. Three hours later and still no leads, I decided to take a rest. I sat against a house near a cross-section. A woman who could only be a Kafra Employee walked by apparently exhausted from the heat. She saw me sitting in the shade of the house and walked over. "Hi! Mind if I join ya?" "By all means miss!" She sat down against the house. "Phew! Sure is hot out here. How do you get by wearing all that armor?" Truth was I was sweating profusely. "I'm used to it." I said to her. "Ahh...You look troubled. Somethin' botherin' ya?" I told her that I was looking for information on current world events. "Oh that's nuthin' ta fret about! Head towards Al De Baran. It's where the Kafra Headquarters is. It's just north of Prontera! They're sure to have some information if any!" My heart skipped a little. My hope returning to me, I got up. "Thank you miss. If you'll excuse me, I must bid you farewell." "No problem. Just don't tell em' I sent ya. It's my first day..." I waved to her as I left for Al De Baran.
