It looked like a long way down…
I’m pretty sure it was a long way down…
exclaim Oh it really was a long way down. I could see the tops of tall buildings and skyscrapers. Oh it was a long way down. Emilia managed to find a maintenance ladder that descended down to another roof, where we could probably find another one.
She sat on my shoulder humming a little sing-songy tune. That made me feel a slight bit better, despite the fact that my side was still throbbing from the blow I received from that stupid robot. That made the trip down slow and agonizing.
“So what was a fairy like yourself doing in a place like that?” I decided to ask. Make conversation to pass the time.
“Infiltrating the enemy’s fortress. Not that there’s anything I could’ve done. I don’t have enough magic dust to leave a dent in anything.” She said.
smile “Oh come now, you got me out, didn’t you?” I smiled.
stare “Yeah, I’m starting to wonder if I’m going to regret that.” She scoffed.
“I’ll try not to let you think that.” I replied. “At least you weren’t captured. I was worried you were and had your wings torn off.”
“Catch a fairy? Please! We’re so rare these days, finding us is a challenge.” She laughed.
“Then why do you not have wings?”
“I don’t have wings because of the lack of magic needed to provide me with them. Not like I have a choice in the matter. Sevilen’s destroying everything.” She said with some sadness in her tone. I remained silent. What could I say? Sevilen was destroying everything. I felt her slump on my shoulder, possibly from disappointments and being reminded that she couldn’t fly.
“Hey, don’t be like that.” I said trying to encourage her. “You saved me from an impossible situation. I don’t think any other flightless fairy could’ve done that. So, I’ll tell you what, I’m going to return the favor.”
She looked up at me.
wink “I’m going to find a way to return your wings.” I said. I meant it. “No one deserved to be stripped of something so special.”
rolleyes “Sure you will. Perhaps when unicorns run on rainbows singing ‘harmony, harmony, oh love’.” She scoffed.
We reached the first roof. “I remember a time when they did.”
Once we reached the ground, we made a dash for the alleys, hoping none of them were dead ends. Emi told me where to go to get to the remaining part of the forest. It was nightfall, the only thing that roamed the streets and skies were the guarding robots, but that was just to be sure no one was out of their homes or cells…
ninja It was much colder out of sight of the burning fires. Emi snuggled up in my scarf to try to stay warm. We reached the edge of town… literally. It dropped off into nothing. A bottomless canyon being the barrier between the factory district and the forest beyond…which looked rather dead. Not like the enchanted forests I remember…
eek “Um.. Karakal….” Emi nervously said, “These guys are better than we thought.”
I slowly turned to see the towering black bodies of metal and their glowing red eyes. The next thing that happened… was probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever done.
sweatdrop I took a leap of faith across the bottomless trench.
