Call me an old lady, but I like enka and traditional Japanese music. I've been looking up enka and traditional artists all day. I want more, more! I've been wondering about it for about three years, but I've been stuck because the only artist like this that I knew about was Umekichi. Love her, but I wanted more. "Don't group these artists together!" So not. Unfortunately, as there are no old Japanese people on Gaia, I can't ask Gaia for artists. I will have to go on an epic blind youtube search or something. Or perhaps gather a bunch of Kouhaku Uta Gassen and keep my ears and eyes peeled. We'll see o:
I also found out that as many traditional songs are much beloved, different artists sing these songs. So therefore, say I like the song "Chakkiri Bushi" (which I do) I can find the same song sung by many different artists. This makes me veeery happy <3
And speaking of Umekichi, what time period is she from?? I can't find any concrete info on her. Its either she's a vampire or the sources are wrong. People say she's from 1927 to as late as 2006, which can not be right! I want to know x.x I know many of her CD's are recent release and she sings many old traditional songs so I can see where these people are coming up with this info, but I want the real story.
