Update - How I rate in the Avatar Arena
I thought it was time to update my little entry, about how I rate in the Avatar Arena.

When rating in the Avatar Arena, I go by the following rating system:

1 - Very poorly made avatar
2
3
4
5 - Average avatar. Not too special, but not bad
6
7
8
9
10 - An amazing avatar. Very unique and well put together

When submitting an entry, be sure to fill out all 4 areas, of the entry. Title, keywords, description and of course, the avatar itself. If any of the 4 aren't that impressive, I'd take a point off.

Title - This can be almost anything. A word or two, telling the theme or even just your account name, if you want. Just don't leave it as "Untitled" or something stupid.

Keywords - Listing items you used, is probably the best way to go about using this. Saying things like "cool", may not be wise, if people don't like it.

Description - This doesn't need to be too long, but try not to have it too short either. Also, be sure to use spell check. Computers have it in almost every single typing program (it's even built into the firefox I'm using), so make use of it. Don't bother mentioning that you're a bad speller, when you have the tools to correct spelling mistakes, right at your finger tips.

Avatar - Obviously, this will be your avatar. Just remember, as long as you like it and are happy with it, don't let the rude comments get to you.

Now their are many many different avatar "categories", which I'll explain my opinions of, below.

Joke Avatars - May get a laugh out of me, but they are just what the category says. A joke. They may be funny, but they tend to be not as good as others.

Cosplay Avatars - I rate differently, than other avatars. Instead of a 1-10 system, I use a 1-5 system. With 5 being the best that a cosplay can get, from me. Why? Because cosplay is not original and it's been done every single week, the avatar arena has been open. It gets old fast. Also, be very sure you spell the cosplay'd character's name and what they are from, correctly. A misspelling could cause fans to down rate you (Example: if it's a FMA cosplay, the correct spelling is - Fullmetal Alchemist. Two words. Not three).

Backwards Avatars - I've been seeing more and more avatars, that are backwards. Mainly, these are ones that use the Galaxy item(s) and/or Elemental Hairs, to try to make a scene. While these were interesting, at first, everyone pretty much uses the same items, with the Galaxy or Elemental hair, over and over again. This gets old, quick.

Certain Items - The use of a certain item, can also cause for me to rate an avatar lower or higher. Here is a small list of some items that I will rate lower than I normally would, if the avi is using the item:

- g-blade
- cig
- ninja headband
- the current months donation item
- ball & chain
- over use of any item (example: using multiple gwees, coco/kiki plushies, etc.)
- use of an over popular common item (example: gunner coat)
- avatar covering items (example: ghost sheets, tetris blocks, etc.)
- full sets
- roman candles

List of items I'll rate higher for, when used well:

- bone dragon helm
- chestplate of arachne

Death Tribute - Just the thought of someone entering an avatar, with the theme of a recent death (Anna Nicole Smith, Steve Irwin, etc.), will instantly get a 1/10, from me. It's just disgusting that someone would even try to profit from someone's death.

Certain Themes - Some themes, I will rate low. Pimps, prostitutes, playboy bunny, etc., i rate low, due to I will not support those lines of work. Yes, it's just an avatar and it's for fun, but still. I won't do it.

Religious References - If I find a heavy religious reference, in the description, keywords or title, will make me rate lower. I don't care if your religious or what your beliefs are, but their is no need for you to be posting them openly, in a public arena. Keep it to the religious forum, PMs with friends, journal or profile.

Why did I write this entry? I wrote it in hopes that others will adopt or use a similar rating system. I see far to many people rating a 10, simply because it's a cosplay of something they like or a 10, simply for being 1st to comment or even a 10, even though they can't see the avatar.

To me, the avatar arena is about having the best, original avatar. Look back at the first few weeks of winners, to see the difference between them and the latest winners. The winners we've been getting lately, aren't all that impressive, compared to winners of the past. Let's fix that, please.
