• The Tears from a Soldier

Once up on a time a lone soldier in a meadow
closes his eyes and dreams of his one true love

    he dreams he's back home
    the war never happened

    he was never drafted
    he never left home

    he dreamed of his sweetheart
    of his child hood memories

    he remembered his mother
    his sisters and brothers

he closed his eyes and dreamed
    and went to sleep again

    he dreamed in his dream
he was back home in the sun

    he dreamed of his lover
    his one true love

    he dreamed of her waiting
    but him to never come

he thought of the plans they made
    for when he got home

    he realized thoughs plans
    might just have to go

    he shook with silent tears
    knowing this was his end

his life passed before his eyes
    right to the end

    he remembered his mother
    his father
    his brothers

    he remembered his sisters
    and his one true lover

    he dreamed this never happened
    that he just stayed home

    he dreamed of his future
that was no longer bright as gold

his tears spilled down his face
thinking of his child hood memories

about the first time he met her
in the park down the street

he laughed at the good times
even though it wasn't the time

he dreamed she was right there
    right by his side

    he cried his eyes out
    until they were dry

he lay there in a meadow
    many soldiers by his side

    he dreamed
    that he'd come home

    to his sweetheart
    he knew he was smiling

    when he charged
    with his gun

    he prayed
    a silent prayer

    that she'd be
    by his side

    he remembered the last time
    he saw her

    in the cold hospital bed
    back home in the city

    where she was sick
    and was crying

    for him not to leave
    but he to was crying

    the day he left
    he got her letter

    she said goodbye
    for the last time

    she knew
    she was broken

    and wouldn't
    make it through the night

    he cried silent
    tears again

    remembering
    the time

    that he promised
    in his dreams

    that he'd meet her
    once again

    he remembered his mother
    his sisters
    his brothers

    he remembered his father

    he remembered his lover

    he remembered the roses
    he placed on her grave

    his child memories
    flashed across his face

    and remembered his promise
that he'd meet her up there

so he charged through the meadow
    to the opposite side

    holding his gun
    other soldiers by his side

he was crying his eyes out
    but they were happy tears

    he'd meet her in heaven
    after all these years

    he'd see her pail face
    and remember how to laugh

    he prayed right there
    on the battle field

    that she waited for him
    after all this time

    he prayed she was there
to meet him at the gates
