• 'Twas the night before Christmas, and lonesome, I sang
Carols to the cold, unlistening sky.
Then put on my jacket, my gloves and my hat,
And bid my home a tender goodbye.

The sky was dark, the air a damp chill,
I envied those with a nice, warm bed.
But driven by duty, I travelled ever on,
My warmth taken from this instead:

"Ho, ho, ho, and a Merry Christmas!
Bring cheer to all the children today!
Stuff stockings with toys, to bring them joy,
And true happiness from Santa's sleigh!"

My heart was lightened, my burdens nought
When that song rang sweetly in my ears.
Sung by the children, it warmed my heart
And brought me real joy over the years.

So with a smile instead of a frown,
I packed the sleigh with toys galore,
And rose with my reindeer into the night sky,
To bring Christmas to the world once more.
