• The Zombie Mist
    Chapter 1 A Normal Day
It was a bright sunny day, in the middle of August, when Jeremy and his pregnant wife, Kalie, were out in the yard. They had no kids, but they lived in the old house that Kalie grew up in. It was an old house that was on the edge of a lake, by mountains. It was very old, with white sidings, a dark shingled roof, and moss growing on the sides. The doors were old-fashioned and creaked time over time again. All the floors inside were either wood or tiled, and the windows, had cracked glass, and old ripped, and torn curtains. The forest surrounded the house, and all that was left to get out were the forest trails. Kalie was one of the few doctors around town (which was rather far from the house, but closest to it than any other). Jeremy did study on animal life in the area. It interested him because there had been sightings of strange animals, like Bigfoot, in the forests, and sea monsters in the lakes. Their yard was nice and green, and there was a big old tree, that had a tire swing hanging from it. There was a dock, and right beside it was a small robin-egg blue boathouse. The lake was quite choppy that day so they decided to re-model the place. Kalie was a little uneven about, it.
“Jeremy! My parents left me the house in their will. I was born here. I can’t bear to change much.”
“I know sweetie, but if we don’t, the whole house will fall down on us. Please I care about our family….and my baby.” Jeremy said with a sigh, rubbing his wives growing belly.
“We will change it. I care for our baby to.” She sighed in agreement.
“We’ll keep what you want the same. Ok? And besides, we get to look at our new baby swing from the same tree you were when we met.” He said, giving Kalie a tender kiss on the cheek.
“Mmm.” She said, looking out to the mountains. “I’ve never seen fish act so strange.”
Jeremy looked out and saw the fish jumping toward the mountains. It wasn’t a few, like normal, but it seemed to be all of them.
“I’ll head to the store to pick up some ply wood.” Kalie said turning away, and walking toward the house. “It’s misty around the city. I’m grabbing my jacket.”

Kalie started to walk down the path, and she heard people screaming, and saw a large crowd running toward the lake.
    “Quick in that house!”
“Hurry Bobby, hurry! The gas is closing in!”
“Hurry, the gas is poisonous! Women and children first!”
“Poisonous?” Kalie said her eyes wide with shock.
Everyone crammed into the old house except for Jeremy and Kalie, who were yet to know what was happening. People were yelling through the windows, but they couldn’t hear.
“Ifs gauff poisom inn it!” They would hear over and over.
    “It’s Poisonous?” Jeremy asked.
A pink gas was moving through the trees, drawing closer to the house, and the lake.
“Run!” Kalie screamed at her husband, bolting around.
    “Where!?”
“The lake!” Kalie said running toward the lake, pulling her husband.
The both jumped into the crystal clear lake.
Soon later the pink gas faded away. The couple got out and crawled back to the house, dripping with lake water.
    “Are you Ok?” Someone asked.
“Yes. I think so.” Kalie answered.
“Get them out! They’re infected!” someone called.
Many people where murmuring, as if they didn’t understand.
    “Infected?” Jeremy said.
“The gas is turning people into zombies after they die! I have seen it!” The person who said it earlier stepped up. The half angry half scared crowd pushed them out of the house.
    “What?”
“Come on we have to find a shelter. Damn!” Kalie said noticing a horde of dark looking people coming to the lake. “Run!”
The couple ran to the boat house and grabbed an un-damaged canoe, and two oars. They set it off in the lake, and began to paddle.
The people (they guessed zombies) slowly ran to the shore and stopped at the touch of water.
