The ground rumbled as the thousands of feet crossed the plains.
The sky started to get dark as night came and the army of men lit up fires to guide their way.
Over the plains and mountains, the army saw their target.
A palace, sat high on a mountain top with its village built down the mountain side.
A tall stone wall stood around the village, the army didn’t see this as a challenge.
On a balcony of the palace, looking over the village and the plains, the queen stood there and looked at the small dots of light coming towards the village.
A man came up behind her
"My queen, you called for me?"
The queen replied
"My trusted friend, I need you to do something special for me"
The man asked softly
"And what may that be?"
The queen stood there in silent. She turned to look at the man
"I need you to take my daughter away from here, as far away as possible until this war is over"
The man said back quickly
"Bu...But what about you, my queen?"
The queen looked over the village. She slowly lifted her head to look back at the small dots of light
"I need to stay here" She quickly looked back at the man "Quickly now, get my daughter and leave at once"
She got softer as she spoke.
The man nodded his head and ran into the palace to find the young princess.
He walked into the princess' room to find her fast asleep in her cot.
The young princess was wrapped in a pink, silk blanket and her body twiched as she dreamed.
The man picked up the young princess and held her close to keep her warm.
He ran out of the palace and climbed onto his horse, he head across the mountains.
He stopped; he had to see what was happening.
As he turned he saw bits of the village and the palace up in flames, he already knew that there would be nothing, no home, for the young princess to return to.
The princess made a noise, the man looked down at her, and she started to wake up.
Her wide brown eyes opened and laughed as see saw the man.
The man would never tell her about that day.
About her mothers choice, about the war, about the kingdom going up in flames.
No one will tell her, she should never know
