• Soul's Blood- Prologue

    “Do you see this?”

    “Yes.”

“Do you know what this is?” Asked the man, holding up a shiny floating object. He arched his eyebrows slightly, looking at the person straight in the eyes.

“No.” Simply stated the other boy, who was considerably younger than the other man, looking about the age of 15.

The shiny floating object seemed to do a spin as the boy answered, its light shining a little brighter. The boy squinted at the object as the man waited for him to do so, poking it at its brightest point. The object jerked backwards and glowed a yellowish, red color.

“Now I am going to ask you a simple question, ok?” Asked the man, in a slow and comprehensible voice.

“Ok.” Replied the boy, standing up straighter in the man’s presence.

“Is it noble to take a human life that does nothing to benefit to the whole of the universe? Or if I may, is it right to kill those who are not just?” The man seemed to be talking to himself, slightly scratching the tip of his chin.

The boy stumbled backwards a couple of steps, by the seriousness of the question. He bit his upper lip and looked upwards at the man, who was about a foot taller than him. The man raised his eyebrows almost expectantly, with a slight of annoyance in his eyes. The boy answered, thinking about the question as he talked, “People shouldn’t die just because they don’t contribute that’s terrible. People die of natural causes everyday, more people shouldn’t die. That’s too much sadness in the universe.”

“Natural causes?” Spat the man, taking a step forward to tower over the boy.

“Yea…” Began the boy again, feeling slightly trapped, “Like diabetes or lung cancer and stuff like that.”

The man crossed his arms and finally spread them apart, pointing at himself, “Now, what do you think I am?”

“You’re a human-“ Started the boy, he stopped as the man revealed a pair of dark wings. His wings resembled a black skeleton, the boy took deliberate steps back from the man, trembling at the same time.

“Do you want to know of what materials my wings are from?” Asked his icy voice, taking no more steps towards the boy and standing his ground. He pushed his wings outwards revealing a red slimy substance on them.

“From people?” Assumed the boy, in an almost frightened voice.

“You catch on quick for a human,” He commented, still holding the shiny floating object, “Now for the answer of the first question. This my dear boy is a human’s soul. You probably can’t comprehend the power that your soul contains. Am I correct?”

The boy looked around the room and realized he was stuck against the wall, he had been luring him there the whole time. He took a shaky breath in and said, “Souls are the thing that makes up a person.”

“Good. But did you know that a soul looked like this,” He maneuvered his head over to the floating glittering object in his hand, “Have you ever seen a person’s eyes in a photo? The light in a person’s eyes are where your soul is, put the two pieces together and you got yourself your whole soul in your hands.”

The boy wasn’t listening, he just shook his head side to side, pounding against the walls.

“Nobody can hear you,” Mocked the creature, sighing and taking steps towards the boy, “Its just you and me now. Now answer me when I ask you this.

Do you think you’re going to die?”
