    .:.PROLOGUE - First Dawn.:.

The crushing silence is finally broken.
The apartment was dark and cold. The only evidence that someone inhabited the small room were the clothes in a heap beside the bed and mobile phone vibrating on the table.
The noise and ring tone that followed echoed through the room. It rang twice, mere seconds separating each repetition. It refused to be ignored.
A tired groan emitted from beneath the thick covers of the bed. Reluctantly an arm snaked out from beneath the sheets. Ambushed by the cold and instantly plagued with goose pimples as soon as it touched the naked air.
A shiver raised the hairs of the arm as it drowsily fumbled for the slim, black mobile phone.
The boy sat up and placed the device to his ear. From beneath rust-coloured hair his blue-green eyes flicked to the window where only the tiniest hint of dawn shone over the horizon.
A long list of curses ran through his mind as the caller finally spoke.
“Dietrich! Were you trying to ignore me?”
The voice was distorted over the phone but he still knew who it was, after all, the only calls he receives are always from the same family.
Dietrich growled irritably in response. By the sound of the caller’s single amused laugh, he was smirking.
“Listen, D,” A short pause followed - very characteristic of someone over-dramatic and egotistical. “It’s finished.”
Three short, consecutive beeps signalled the call had been terminated before the room was enveloped in silence once more.
