• On a hilltop, there lays the moon shining proudly as we howl to it. One day a wolf cub wonders,
“Mom? What is the moon like?”
His mom turns her head to him and smiles affectionately. The wolf cub, named silver because of his unique silver and blue fur, makes the decision to meet the moon.
After a while of howling at the moon, the mother nudges the cubs with her snout to go home. Here’s my chance Silver thought. He went on top of the cave, moon in sight,
    “This is it!” Silver yelled,
He jumped towards the moon and…
    PLOP!
There was something gray in front of Silver. It was round and all, but something wasn’t right about it.
“Hey look! You met the rock!”
Silver looked up and there was his older brother, Flash
    “Stay out of it Flash!”
“Oh why? I know jumping off our cave isn’t going to help.”
“Well I know that you aren’t going to help me at all.”
“I know for a fact that jumping off the cave won’t help.”
“Where would you suggest I jump off of?”
“Not a cave that’s for sure.”
Silver looked towards his mom and all she did was smile.
“Look stay out of it unless you are going to help!” Silver barked.
Their mom came over and nudged them to get back in the cave. Flash growled so she picked him up by the collar.

    The next day…

Silver came out of the cave and saw there is only the sun.
    “Where did the moon go?”
“I guess you will have to wait until night before meeting it.”
Silver turned his head and saw his sister, Kim
“I guess so, have you ever noticed that you have the only creative name?”
When Silver said this, his mom came over and asked,
“Do you want to know what my parents named my brother who lost his leg, an eye, and part of his tail?”
“What?” Silver and Kim said simultaneously
    “Fred.”
Feeling that her point was proven she walked for a distance, dug, and found the buried moose meat that the pack had recently killed.
Do you know how a wolf feeds her cubs? If you do then good for you, but if you don’t well… you don’t want to know.
Their dad came back from hunting later that day and had them move closer to the kill.
“We managed to catch a buffalo this time,” Silver’s dad said, “It was ready to die, but it was a fat one.”
Silver had a taste for food that no other wolf had. Young animals – not so good, birds – a bit better, moose – not bad at all, buffalo – best thing ever. That being said, Silver was rather excited to get to the buffalo.
By the time they got to the new site the moon was up, a perfect time to meet the moon. Silver decided to jump off a rock this time. Facing the moon he jumped and…
    PLOP!
“I don’t think the rock works either.” Flash commented.
Silver was rather upset up to this point. He tried to meet the moon twice, but instead he met the rock.
Seeing his frustration Silver’s dad came over to him and said,
“See that tree over the lake? The lake has magical powers which will allow you to meet the moon if you jump off the tree.”
Now silver doesn’t believe in magic, but he reasoned he probably won’t get hurt if he lands in the lake. Silver was content to lay that aside until tomorrow.

    The next day…

Silver woke up and the sun was there to greet him. Flash acknowledged that Silver was looking to the sky and said,
“Won’t you give up on meeting the moon? There is no way you could possibly meet it.”
Silver was annoyed at Flash, but before he could say anything Kim stepped in.
“Look, if you aren’t going to help Silver then go away!”
Flash didn’t want to get into a fight with Kim, after all Kim always wins, so he stamped off muttering, “puppy love”
    Turning to Silver, Kim asked,
“So where will you try tonight?”
“Dad said to try on the tree over the lake.”
“I hope it works this time”
If wolves could blush, Silver would be right now. He had never seen his sister be so nice to him

    That night…

Silver was on the tree, ready to try to meet the moon. Although this time Silver was too scared to jump. What if he doesn’t make it? Will Flash laugh at him again? Silver turned to get off, but he tripped.
    Splash!
Silver was ready to whine, thinking he failed again, but there it was!
    “The moon!”
Silver was so happy, he had finally met the moon! Silver laughed, danced, and splashed with the moon until his mom came over.
“Look mom! I met the moon!”
Silver’s mom smiled the same affectionate smile. Silver couldn’t wait to tell Flash.

    The End
