• The race was about to start. I looked sideways. On my right was Eric, afraid. He fears for himself, his friends, his girlfriend and me. He felt that he got me into this mess. I couldn’t tell him the whole truth, that the guy on my left, the leader of all things gangster, had something on me.

I looked on my left at the same time he gazed at me. That brown eyes penetrate me in such a way that my heart skip a beat. I looked away, not trusting myself. One look is all it takes for me to lose everything.

    “Ready? Set, go!”

As we entered what I would like to call the Devil’s Lair, I saw Ken. He was guarding the door waiting for the okay from his master. I gasped. Eric turned to me and asked, “What’s wrong?” I gulped.

“Nate. That’s who you’re up against?” I could hear my voice shaking. No, not from fear…not really, it was more of a frustration. I hate Nate. Okay, no, not really. I thought I was in love with Nate. It was long before I met Eric and it really was a strong feeling. So now I’m not sure of myself.

“Do you know him?” Brad, Eric’s best friend, asked me. I didn’t even get a chance to think an answer when Ken opened the door. One by one we entered. When I was about to walk through the door, Ken finally saw me.

“Janice?” he asked in disbelief. His voice was so loud that everyone turned to see. I felt a particular eye on me and I turned to find him sitting on the sofa. “What are you doing here?” he raised an eyebrow.
