• “Laali, Laali, Laali” the little girl sings in her pretty black dress, as she plays with her ragged doll unaware of the world around her. Smiling she decides to play Mommy and Jeremy. Pushing her honey and dirt colored hair out of her face, she picks the Doll up and cradles it gently cooing kind words in her evilly sweet voice. Looking down by her feet she spots an ant bed. Grinning in a very malicious manner she places her Doll in the middle and steps back. Staring down at it she say’s in a stern voice “that will teach you not to misbehave Sparkle”. She looks up as her name is called, “Myna, Myna where are you?”. She looks at her doll, “I’ll come back to get you later” she says as she runs towards the house to her mother.

She finds her Mother sitting on the couch blankly staring at the TV. “ You’d better clean your room before Jeremy comes home” she says not taking her eyes off the TV. The little girl sighs and walks to her room gloomy. “ I hate Jeremy.” She says slamming her door very forcefully for a four year old. She slides down the door and rolls up her sleeve to view her bruises. “Black, Blue, Green, Yellow” she chants to herself, as she traces each one softly with her finger.

She pick’s up her meager toys deliberately slow. Sneaking out of her room she runs to retrieve Sparkle from her punishment. Picking her up out of the ant bed she hugs her doll with much love, but she hears something behind her. Turning to look she find a car beside her and a man sitting inside frowning impatiently at her. “Having fun Myna” he says with a sneer as she steps back and runs into the house. She can hear him laugh as she runs to the house but she doesn’t care. Slamming the door she runs to her room and hides in the closet afraid. “we weren’t supposed to go outside today Sparkle” she says fearfully, “I wonder what he’ll do to me for disobeying him?”.

She listens as the front door open’s and slams shut. She listens as he sets his briefcase down, with a loud thud. She listens as he walks into the living room and starts to yell at her mother, and she listens to the beating. Over and over she listens to the thump, thump, thump to his fist on her mother’s back. Finally it is silent. She hears the thud of Jeremy’s boots coming closer and closer. Vowing not to cry she waits in the closet hoping that he won’t find her. Her door opens with a squeak and then closes. She listens as he locks it with the rusty key around his neck. Walking closer she buries her head in her hands trembling from fear. The closet door opens and the light shines in bright like a beacon.

Smiling he pulls her out and throughs her on the floor. “ Thought you could hide little b***h” he says in disgust as she looks at the floor ignoring him. Reaching down her lifts her off the ground with her chin in his grip. “ I am your father, and you will do as I say”. Slapping her she runs into her desk sending her coloring books everywhere. “ My father is dead” she says, her voice monotone and resentful. Standing up she glares at him and he rushes towards her. Ducking she tries to get away from him. Pounding on the door she screams hoping the neighbors will hear. Walking to her he slaps her with so much force she is lifted off the ground. Trying to get her balance she falls.
She remains there until he picks her up off the ground, but she fights him. He drags her to the kitchen and she looks at her Mother on the floor pool of blood around her head. Grabbing some duck tape he carries her back to her room and puts her on the bed. Holding her down he puts his knee on her chest and begins wrapping layer upon layer of tape around her arms then legs.

“Your mother is dead and you are next” He says cutting off a final length. Placing it over her mouth her stares at her smiling. “I really hoped that her could be friends” he says softly stroking her cheek. She whimpers and struggles but it’s no use. Picking up a pillow he slowly lowers it over her face smothering her laughing all the while.

She fights him but it’s in vain. She can feel herself getting weaker and weaker. She stops fighting and her soul sits up. Spying her doll she grabs it as a bright light opens up in her ceiling, and a figure floats down. It’s a kind looking man. “ Myna” he says happily, tears in his eyes as he rushes foreword to hug her. “ Daddy” she says as she embraces him her memories of him coming back to her. “ Oh, Daddy” she says crying now as she clings to him tightly, “ I’ve missed you so much”. “ I’ve missed you too sweetheart” he says to her staring at Jeremy. “ You get to come live with me now” he says setting her down and gently taking her hand in his. “ Is Mother in Heaven?” she asks as she steps into the light with her Daddy. As they rise he looks at her, “I don’t know we’ll just have to see” he says smiling at her as they fade away.
