• Chapter 4
All three children went to bed that night completely mystified about what happened to them. They woke up the next morning and went to school as normal. Everything went fine until 8th period, the last period of the day.
Lucy had been in social studies class when all of a sudden her choker necklace began to glow. She raised her hand.
“Yes Lucy?” the teacher asked looking at her necklace.
“I’m sorry Mr. Griffin but may I please go to the jo… bathroom, yeah bathroom.” Lucy had been about to say john, because she was so used to it from England, but she had done that before and people had laughed and started imitating her.
“Yes you may. Here’s the pass,” Mr. Griffin said handing her the pass. Lucy felt his eyes on her as she left the room, it gave her the shivers.

“What do you want this time Max? Going to comment on my teaching again?” Ms. Vath, Max’s math teacher, asked when he raised his hand. You comment one time on a teacher talking too fast and they hold a grudge forever.
“No Ms. Vath, I was wondering if you would let me go to the bathroom.” Max asked trying to cover up his wrist band, which was glowing for some reason.
“Yes, yes as long as it gets you out of my hair!” Ms. Vath said signing a pass for Max.

Izzy was walking through the hallways trying to find a bathroom that wasn’t broken or locked when, up ahead, she saw some other girl, and her necklace was glowing too! Izzy went forward and realized it was that new British girl what was her name… Linda? No it was Lucy that was her name!
“Ummm Lucy, right?” Izzy asked her staring at her necklace. It looked just like her grandmothers, but there was a different color gem.
“Ah yeah. Bloody hell! Your necklace is just like mine, even the glowing part!” Lucy exclaimed.
“SHHH, someone might hear you!” Izzy whispered angrily.
Max turned around the corner and saw the two girls talking. More importantly he saw their necklaces. They were glowing just like his wristband. The girl on the right was that new girl, the one from English, and the other one he had seen around school a few times. He walked over and got the girls’ attention.
“Okay obviously something freaky is going on here.” Max said to them.
The girls looked over at him then at his wrist which he was holding up. They realized that he had a choker too, but for some reason he was wearing on his wrist.
“You realize that that is a necklace right?” Izzy asked, but Max wasn’t paying attention to her anymore.
“You’re in my chemistry class right?” he asked Lucy. She just nodded her head and blushed. She hadn’t realized that anyone had really noticed her yet, let alone Max. Max looked at Lucy, she got real quiet all of a sudden. Was she shy or did she not wanna talk to him? Max hoped it was the first one.
“Okay let’s find some place a little more private to talk about the necklaces,” Izzy said pulling them into the nearest janitor’s closet. “Okay so where did you guys get those necklaces?”
“I bought it at a jewelry store near my house; the owner said it was from an archeological dig in Egypt,” Lucy said looking around the closet. Not much stuff in here, so it must not be used a lot.
“Yeah, my grandma found them and mentioned selling the other ones so where did you buy yours Max?” Izzy asked.
“You wouldn’t believe me!” Max said.
“Now you can’t be sure of that,” Lucy said. “I mean not that you’re dumb, it’s just, um, some weird, uh, stuff happened since I got this bloody necklace.”
“Same here!” Izzy said remembering how her eyes burst into flames.
“Fine, I was in the woods with some of my friends when this jackal comes toward us. Everyone ran away but I stayed… ‘cause I’m not afraid of any old jackal” Max lied to impress Lucy but it hadn’t seemed to work “and he dropped it at my feet. Then he talked to me! He had to make sure that I was me!”
The girls looked at him. Lucy believed this completely since she had been able to talk to her cat. Izzy was going to believe anything at this point!
“Yeah, okay so anyone have any idea why these are glowing?” Izzy asked them.
“How should we know?” Lucy asked. “Didn’t you just say your grandmother found them?”
“Well all I know about them is that they are from Egypt and apparently, they glow!” Izzy said.
“Why don’t we ask your grandmother, she is the expert on these right?” Max suggested.
“Well, she was the expert, but now she’s dead,” Izzy said solemnly.
“Oh my, I’m so sorry!” Lucy said hugging Izzy.
“It’s okay, but maybe she wrote about it in one of her travel journals. They’re at my house in the attic, if we wanna look at them. We can go over there after school,” Izzy explained.
“Uh, sure I guess,” Max agreed
“I’ll be there. I want to figure out what is going on! I talked to my bloody cat when I got it on!” Lucy yelled.
