He abruptly let go of the hold he had on me.
“I hurt you,” he said in a frightening tone,” That ‘s all you need to know.”
“You never hurt me, the fire did,” I responded.
“That’s my point,” he said in a voice that didn’t belong to him,” I started the fire, I’m the reason you’re hurt.”
“I...I don’t understand what you mean” I stammered. He had lost me through his crazy talk.
“There’s not much to understand,” he replied with a slight chuckle that really wasn’t meant to symbolise any form of amusement.
“You are being crazy! You never started that fire! Someone else did and they have you believing that you did! You are being fooled!” I argued back, screaming.
He looked back at me hurt. I hated it when he put on his sad face and he knew it. All the same he never changed it. He just kept staring at me with the puppy dog eyes that I hated. He stared at me for so long I began to wonder if he had suddenly become immobilised from his neck up. It was really starting to creep me out.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t believe that you started that fire, it’s just not in your nature.” I said with about a thousand explanations running through my head as to why it wasn’t him.
“Maybe when I started the fire, I wasn’t myself” he replied in a bleak manner, “You should get some rest, you haven’t stopped all day”
He didn’t even leave me time to argue about how not tired I was because before I knew it I was under the duvet of the uncomfortable hotel bed and wrapped up nice and tight. I must’ve been tired after all because I couldn’t remember anything that happened in between James putting me to bed and waking up...apart from the dream.
I was in another dark room only this time it was just me lying on a red silk sheet. Which I realised before was blood. I couldn’t see James anywhere. Then I remembered my dream where there was a shadow holding a knife and a shadow of a body. I had been killed. But those dreams couldn’t come true. Right?
“James, can dreams come true?” I asked him when I woke from my slumber.
“ Well, Yes of course.” He replied.
“What about nightmares?” I asked in a very worried tone that I hoped he wouldn’t realise.
“They are exactly the same as dreams but nightmares contain your own personal fears. So Yes they can come true.” He answered.
Oh Dear. This is not good.
