• The day was silent and serene before the disaster struck, a calm before the storm that surprised even the most cautious when it hit. The place where it all began was the most devastated, and the carnage still lies there to this day. As the ancient cities bells struck noon on the longest day of the year it began to happen. And the earth was torn asunder.
The cities buildings burst into flames, one by one, starting with the most magnificent in its center, and even including the lowliest hovels seeking protection outside the city walls, nobody knows what started the fires, nobody escaped the city alive, or so it’s told. Yet everyone knows that nobody in the city that is now charcoal had time to even take a step to save themselves or their families. The only people who can tell us what had happened were on the hills surrounding the city watching, and those that dared investigate the charred buildings and corpses to get a clue. Yet in the end, nobody knew anything more about what had happened.
Two hundred miles away from the disaster, a child was born, at the exact moment that the fire broke out that destroyed the city. She was born with a black mark running up his arm in the shape of a dragon, later they would say this child was cursed, though for now, it was little more than about her. They gave her the name of Selena, a famous dragon that in legend had died to protect the land they lived in from a time when the stars fell to the earth. The week after she was born, the news reached the town and Selena and her parents found themselves at a great distance from the rest of the townspeople, who now thought the girl cursed.
