"I shivered in my space gear as the drop ship doors opened and the light acknowledged us to jump and fight. . ."

The grounds we fought on were obsidian black and glistened as their moon shone upon it. The sky glowed with a shade of blue only your imagination could come up with. Everything awed us, and we were caught off guard. Very clever of these aliens to use this planet for what they did. They shot out of the ground like a lizard would if you set the ground beneath it on fire. Everything was horrendous.

The scent of death was all around us. We couldn't do anything any longer. We held them off while the gunships slammed them hard, but they just kept pursuing us. We had no hope. Not even the elite of our company could help us. It was a battle the human race had to accept they lost at.

The battle pursued and we were pushed back past the point in which we had decided we would retreat. But of course, the attacks were so quick that the drop ships wouldn't even be able to hover high enough to pick us up. Blasts of blue ion energy beams shot down upon these creatures. I got a glimpse of one. It terrified me to know that the last four years we had been fighting these things never to see them until today.

Too many of us were lost there. Some taken captive, some left to be stranded. It was like a perfect movie moment when I looked up to see a fully grown creature, or whatever it was, fly up into the air and rip an enormous hole into the gunship. That terrified me more than anything. morale was down and no one knew what to do. The only thing that we had remembered today, was that we never stop firing. Never stop. . .
