"What do you mean by 'I don't need you to know'? You tell me everything!" I couldn't take it anymore! Hayley and her nosy-ness! Why couldn't she just shut up when I told her to? But no, she had to pester me about why I was so basically brain dead the whole school day. Ugh. I just do not understand how she can talk so much without her brain registering every second word. Oops, I think I just insulted one of my best friends. At least she knows. "Jude! Answer me, man! What do you mean?!" Jeez.
Hayley has sleek brown hair and shockingly blue eyes. She's very pretty and has absolutely no flaw to her appearance. Her nails are like every other top girl in school; claw-like. Apparently that's the new fad of the month. She wore a pink sweater on top of a flannel t-shirt and a mini skirt. To be honest, she looked gorgeous. Me on the other hand ... Let's just say that my blond hair and green eyes don't even come close to her.
"I mean what I said, Hayls! I don't need you to know! I can't even understand it! Jeez, stop trying to gossip me." That's when I hit her button.
"Okay, Jude. You know I do not gossip my friends. We have been besties since kindergarten and have I ever gossiped you?"
"No, but you've gossiped about Danny." And on queue, Danny caught up and put his arms around us. "Well speak of the Devil and the Devil shall come." We laughed; Danny was known for popping up at unexpected times.
Danny is very sweet and kind. He's also good looking. I think I surround myself with good looking people to forget about my own ugliness. Even though Danny tells me I'm hot, I know he thinks Hayley is hotter and I agree. I am very self conscious. But still, he tells me I am good looking. Everyone says I am, I just don't want to hear it. Danny has very soft black hair and smoky gray eyes. his body is fit and muscular and his mouth a bit big. But that's what is great about him. He was wearing jeans and a plain black t-shirt. I feel so left out.
I was wearing a black sweater and tight jeans. Danny always said we just ironically match without seeing each other. I find it kind of funny that we dress correspondingly, but it's sorta awkward when you have people asking you secretly if we're going out. We are just friends. Get it, got it, good.
"So Hayley, Jude, you both coming to the party?" He did a little jig and put his arms back around us. To the untrained eye, another person would think Danny was a player. But he was the opposite; he was a sweet, caring guy that wrote poetry. No cliche there. He is very talented writer and artist. Many who know him like in school or at work have given him money for one of his paintings. Even I have one and I'm not that big a fan of art. Other than sketching, but I really suck at painting and other things. I usually do portraits on charcoal pencil; Danny uses paint brushes and is absolutely a God when handed one.
Hayley nodded feverishly. "Well, why not? We are so obviously coming! Who isn't?" Then she looked at me with guilt in her eyes. "Sorry Jude. Are you coming, though?" I nodded and she nodded feverishly again as Danny laughed at her. "Yes, we are coming. I am coming, well, because Kristopher is hosting!" Oh yes. Kristopher Johnson is Hayley's latest boy toy. It's really quite annoying having your best girl friend dating the most popular guy on campus. He's the typical popularity guy; glossy black hair, big arms and the captain of the football team. However, Hayley isn't even close to being a cheerleader if you count out the gossiping brain and hot body. But yes, she tried out and failed; her hand-eye co-ordination sucks almost as bad as mine. And I fall every second step practically.
"All right! So, I guess I'll pick Jude up at, what, seven?" We laughed again. Danny usually made jokes like that; but again I'll say he is not a player. At last, we made it to the cafe Danny and I worked at. Hayley worked at her favorite store, Jennings. It was a shoe store, jewelry store and clothes store all at once. Think Walmart, except without the over exaggerating shelves and more exclusive. Of course, an advantage of being friends with Hayley was being allowed in top secret stores.
Danny and I said good bye to Hayley as she waved and went across the street to Jennings. We talked for a bit before starting the shifts. I was a waitress and Danny was the cashier; we were practically the only people working other than the manager who had eyes and ears like a hawk and another boy with bad acne and a stubble that looked weird. He kept looking at me strangely. I don't like him and neither does Danny, though I think that's because the acne-dude asked me to the dance the other day. Hayley had a laugh when she was told why Danny was tenser and paranoid. All me and Danny had to do was wait out the five hours until we go to the party.
