• CHAPTER 86 - HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING...

Well, that can't be good...my killer was just on school grounds. That's just what I need to concentrate on my exams.

Kai frowned at me, "Are you sure nothing's wrong?"

I was becoming paranoid; Kai and I were still sitting in his car and we were still at my school. That Vampire could still be here, right? No, Kai would smell him; duh, Arisa, get it through your thick head that you're perfectly safe right now.

"Um..." I decided to leave out the whole nomad on school property thing. "Just thinking about my nightglare I had last night."

"It scared you that much..." he mumbled, not even phrasing it into a question.

"Yeah," I mumbled back and looked down as Kai's index finger traced over my right cheekbone.

The car shifted into "drive" and we took off. We didn't go home as I had expected. Kai parked in the street several blocks from school at the café we have been to several times before. Kai cupped his hand behind my head and pulled me over to land a rough kiss on my forehead. My heart jumped a little and I embraced him.

"Let's go," Kai climbed out of his car.

Before I could even unbuckle my seat belt, Kai was already at my door. He generously opened it and grabbed my hand and helped me out of the car. I kept my hand in his as we entered the café, ignoring the stares pointed at Kai. While we were ordering our little snacks, I was secretly peeking around the café in paranoia that the nomad would just so happen to be here. I'm paranoid to start with but once I see my killer right outside my classroom window, that's when it starts shooting sky-high.

"Here," Kai nudged me with my french vanilla cappuccino and brownie in hand.

"Oh," I took them generously, "thanks." I mumbled.

We sat at a table for two in the corner and we sat in silence as I waited for my drink to cool down. Kai took a few bites from his brownie and would peek at me every few seconds, probably checking to see that I haven't died of heart attack. The only reason he kept checking was because I was biting my lip and fondling with my fingers under the table; there was a major question running through my head.

"Tell me," Kai encouraged after rummaging through my head.

    "Well--"

"It's not another frivolous offer, is it?" he asked me with one eyebrow cocked, reminding me of my offer yesterday.

I shook my head, "No, it's not," I frowned. "I learned my lesson."

"Good," Kai approved and took another small bite of his brownie.

I laughed lightly, "I've never seen you eat chocolate,"

"You kidding?" Kai cocked an eyebrow at me once more. "I love chocolate."

I laughed out loud this time, "Seriously?"

    He shrugged, "Yeah,"

I took my sweet time and took a bite of my brownie and I took a breath to phrase my question properly before blurting it out.

    "Go whenever you want,"

Deep breathing hardly helped any, "Let's say--hypothetically--that...um...one of the Vampires you're supposed to bring me to...was in town,"

Kai froze and it almost looked as though he were holding his breath, "Did you see one of them?"

"No, no!" I shook my hands. "Hypothetically speaking, Kai. What would I do if I suspected a Vampire was one of those two?"

"Are you sure you didn't see one of them?" he interrogated.

Deep breathing still didn't help much, "Kai, I don't even know what they look like," I never wanted to tell him that the same nomad was in all of my nightglares and at my school.

Kai was silent; either he was speechless or he couldn't put his answer right. I decided to break it down a little, "I mean, what if I suspect a Vampire is one of the two and he turns out to be one. Could he kill me right then and there?"

Kai propped his chin on his hand and thought deeply, "No, I don't believe so,"

Confusion came over me, "What? Why?"

"It's part of the contract," he confirmed. "They don't want one of them finding you and killing you themselves without sharing with the other. They will attempt an infiltration, but the contract would hold them back."

"So..." I looked down, "the only way they would be able to kill me...is if you bring me there?"

Kai only answered with silence and a low-hung head. The silence dragged on for what felt like forever until Kai spoke up, "There...isn't a set date,"

    "What?"

"The day that I...bring you to them," he hesitated. "There's no set date as to when; I suppose the contract would just take over whenever they want you."

My heart skipped a beat, "O-oh,"

"Arisa, when that time comes that the contract gradually starts taking over, I want you to have Matsuda or Kira or anybody to take you far away,"

"What about you?" I murmured, fearing the worst.

Silence occupied the aura between us, "You probably won't see me again,"

I ran my hands through my hair and looked down, not wanting Kai to see my eyes tear up already. My heart tore in two and I was almost sure Kai probably heard it. So that would be it; the contract would try to take over him and the next thing you know, we'll move on opposite sides of the world.

"Can't-can't you wait until that other girl like me comes around?" I sniffed.

"Arisa, the problem is that girls like you are born after ever two hundred to three hundred years and also, there won't be another girl with your blood unless you die,"

"Then just..." I choked on my words. "Then just turn me into a Vampire and all will be fine."

Kai stared at me in disbelief and I wouldn't have blamed him; I still don't want to become a Vampire, "Arisa--,"

"If-if we do that..." I stuttered, "then my blood would be useless, right? You'd be rid of the contract?"

Kai paused again and he removed himself from his seat, grabbing my hand and dragging me along with him. We exited the café and into his car; the fact that he didn't answer either meant I was dead-on or it would just make things worse.

"I'm sorry," I murmured and leaned against his arm.

He still didn't respond. I glanced up at him, "Are you angry with me?"

He shook his head, "No, I'm not,"

The ride home was much shorter than usual; Kai was traveling damn near a hundred and ten miles per hour. The whole ride back home, I was staring at Kai rather than gripping onto his car seat for dear life. Kai parked his car outside of the garage and took a deep breath before teleporting out of the car and to my side. He helped me out of the car, but he seemed a little urgent. Arriving inside the house, I had already tripped over my feet three times. Time to take off my shoes wasn't given to me until we were up in our bedroom. I removed my shoes and stood next to the bed as Kai shut and--strangely--locked the door.

"Look, Kai, I'm sorry about bringing up that whole Vampire thing," I looked down. "I didn't mean it."

Words were still absent and the only way Kai responded was by cupping my jaw with both hands and plastering his lips onto mine. He kissed me fervently and opened my mouth with his tongue and delved in deeply; almost a little too deep. I immediately responded by running my hands through his hair and gripping it tight enough to make a normal human cry. My opinion changed about him explaining things; I didn't want any words to be spoken right now.

One arm of Kai's wrapped around my waist and lifted me up to land us on his risen bed. He turned me so I was lying on the bed vertically and he did all that without separating our lips. His mouth was hot, urgent, desperate, longing. I didn't know if this was an early goodbye or just another moment. I gripped his hair harder and pulled his lips closer and his tongue only delved deeper. I had to pull back half an inch with how deep he was going but he kept at it.

I was choking up on a few tears because I was afraid; nobody knew how much longer I had with Kai and I never know because today could be my last day. But if it was my last day, wouldn't Kai have already brought me to those Vampires?

I was interrupted once more as Kai's hands pushed my sweater and my shirt up about halfway and his large hands gripped my waist and he pulled me closer to him. I leaned my head back for Kai to fervently kiss my neck and my collarbone after he untied my tie and unbuttoned three buttons on my shirt. We rolled over and I was above him and he continued to kiss my collarbone and my throat. I wiped the excess drool from around my mouth and I gripped Kai's hair again.

Kai sat up so I was sitting on his lap after about thirty seconds and his arms coiled around my waist and our kissing started again. He pushed my hair over the back of my shoulders and he gripped my jaw and lifted my head up to kiss my throat once more. I interrupted Kai's kissing of my throat by embracing him around the neck and running one hand through his hair and nibbled on his right ear. He kissed the side of my neck and ran both of his hands halfway up my shirt.

"You have no idea how much I don't want that day to come," Kai whispered to me.

"I'm sorry," I whispered into his ear.

"But I'm serious, Arisa," Kai kissed my neck, "when the time approaches that I feel the contract is trying to overwhelm me, I'm going to send you away."

I allowed a few tears to slip and I kissed his neck, "No, I don't want to leave,"

Kai sighed, "Arisa, that's probably what would prevent your fate,"

"I don't believe in fate, Kai," I reminded him. "I think there is a way you could change it."

"Arisa, I'm trying so hard," Kai sighed again.

"I'm not going to leave you, Kai,"

A pause was held for a prolonged time, "I'll try what I can," he sighed. "Just don't keep your hopes too high."

Would it really be best for me to leave Kai? Wouldn't the contract still be potent over him and he'd come find me? What will happen to me when the contract takes over?
