• I could feel my heart pounding in my ears, louder than it ever had before. My death was right behind me and I knew the night couldn't and wouldn't end well. Gusts of wind and rain were stinging my cheeks, but once my attention was diverted, I knew it was going to be over.
Suddenly, my vampire "friend" took a step closer to me.
After thinking over my thoughts carefully, I couldn't help but emerging with a hesitant complaint. "What do you want from me?" My question was so meaningless; it echoed over and over inside my head until I felt a cold hand on my neck.
He sighed, "I think you know exactly what I want, Jessie." Slowly, he ran his pointer finger down my spine.
"No. I don't think I do," I snapped as I turned around. When I saw his face, I gasped. I had never seen any vampire--especially in all the time that I knew that they acctually existed--that pale, that blood-thirsty.
"I want you to leave Anchorage and take your little brother with you."
"I'm not leaving and my brother is not that small. You might want to start think about what you say before you say it."
"Oh, don't worry, Jess. I knew exactly what I was going to say weeks ago."
"Stop calling me Jessie, Jess, or any other names you low-life "scary" creacher can think of.
    "Low-life? Really"
And with that, both of them disappeared.
