• tab Eve pressed her back against the wall, the shadows cloaking her slim body perfectly to hide her from her followers. She smiled; testing the dark’s strength with her power, she knew it was strong enough for what she needed. Down the hall she could hear two sets of heavy footsteps heading for her, searching the dungeon in pursuit of their escapee.
tab “Damn whore! Where’d she run off? This is getting irritating.” One of them complained, stomping her way and hitting his club against the wall to cause what he thought was an intimidating echo.
tab “You’ll scare the Shadow Chaser away like that. Be quiet. She’s around here somewhere; just stay out of the dark.” The other whispered in a failing attempt to warn his partner.
tab Eve reached her hand towards them, being careful not to let them become aware of her presence. A vine of black shot forth from the shadows and decapitated one of the men. With a flick of her wrist a dozen more chained the other man to the opposite wall.
tab “Whore, am I?” She asked angrily, stepping from the shadows. “Nice to see how much you adore me. I might consider giving you a quick death like your friend there… If you tell me what I want to know.”
tab “Burn in hell, b***h. I won’t tell you anything. You’ll soon be dead like the others… Just wait.” The man spat back at her, struggling to free himself.
tab She made a fist with her hand and the shadow ropes tightened around him; she could tell that his blood couldn’t circulate through his limbs anymore. She didn’t care- as if he’d need them anymore.
tab “Who killed him?” Eve asked.
    tab “Burn.”
tab “Who killed my family? My loved ones? My people? I want a name.”
    tab “No.”
tab “You have a matter of seconds before I tighten those ropes. Would you like me to rip you to shreds, limb by limb? Who killed them and who brought me here?”
tab “You’ll never be as powerful as my lord. Even if you kill me- which you can go ahead and do like you did to your precious lover-”
tab There went his right arm. “Wish to answer me now or should I dispose of your other arm? The shadows like your blood…” She said, the man screaming hysterically with wide eyes as he watched the shadows devour his lost limb. “Well? Who killed them?”
tab “We all know what you did. We all know you sacrificed him to help you grow stronger… You just refuse to remember. But we know… You killed him, not us.” The man managed to say.
tab Anger burst within her and she ripped the rest of his limbs off at the same time, his blood splattering the hall. He began screaming again, faintly for the blood loss, and she severed his ugly head from his shoulders and let the pieces of his body fall to the floor.
tab “I never killed him. I never hurt him.” She muttered to the dead men, even though she was beginning to doubt herself.
tab Her memories were gone; all of them, as they had been when she’d been found as a child. She did recall certain things, but not the past few weeks. And the only thought echoing in her mind was: Sam’s dead, Sam’s dead, Sam’s dead. It was as if she had been sleeping all that time, not alive yet not dead. And now here she was, appearing to have been captured by some nameless enemy, and everyone she’d known was gone.
tab Her Master would have been disappointed in her if he still lived.
tab Eve kicked one of the dead men aside, shrouding herself once more in the shadows. There were many things that she wanted to discuss with her abductor, all of which would end in their death. She only had to find him or her, whoever it was. And if she dominated the shadows the right way, they would lead her to the one she needed to find.
tab Eve placed her hand on one of the walls, whispering to herself the archaic spells that would help her become more competent in her art. The shadows bent towards the floor, aligning themselves with the wall again before flattening out into a line. The stripe surged half-way up the wall, pointing toward what her heart wanted to look for most in that moment. She followed the bar down the hall with a quickened pace.
