• Chapter One
“What do you mean I have to go now?” Elena Rithe asked angered over the phone. She was pacing around her lonely studio apartment that overlooked the city. Elena ran her long dainty fingers through her short, red hair. Her strong green eyes were darting around the apartment as she tried to think of an excuse to get out of her most recent request from her boss. “Listen, Mr. Russo…I can’t--““No, no more complaints, Elena. You’re going and that’s that.” Her boss scolded as he hung up the phone. Elena sighed and tossed the phone onto the small couch. She walked slowly into her room to pack her things. “How can that old man expect me to just drop everything and go to some hotel in the middle of nowhere, uhg the man is impossible! How does he expect me to have the money to get from New York City to Nevada?” Elena mumbled to herself as she threw various pieces of clothes into her suitcase.
It wouldn’t be the first time Mr. Russo had asked her to go somewhere bizarre for work. They were primarily a flower shop, but Mr. Russo had a side job. He had a dangerous business of detective-like work. He had been searching for his lost partner from the force long ago and is still searching. Sometimes he sends Elena to places where he wouldn’t dare to go. Elena would be asked to scout out the barren place and see if Mr. Russo’s partner was there. However, he was never there. He never would be there. Why would an ex-cop hide somewhere so…easy? A place so easy to detect, it wouldn’t be smart. Elena closed her suitcase and grabbed her keys off the bed. She walked out into the hallway and grabbed her cell phone on her way out of her room. She made her way to the front door and locked it tight after leaving.
Who knew how long she'd be gone this time.
