“My name is Kagura Uzumaki and I live with my dad, Hatori, I also have a brother, Haru but he lives with other family members. The Uzumaki family is full of dragon demons, except for my brother and I, because our mother is human but we have no memories of her. So here’s my story”
“Dad! Daddy! I’m home from school! Sorry I’m late there was another fight and… oh what’s this, a note?” I noticed.
Hey Kagura,
Sorry I’m not home. I went out to do some things I should be back a little later. Sorry we had to skip training today. Oh don’t wander to far Haru’s coming over today
Love, Dad
After reading the note I carelessly threw it away, not thinking twice whether or not I wanted to keep it.
“Ow! I guess I should put ice on these bruises before I swell up like a balloon.”
I’m the reject in my school a half demon like me isn’t “cool” so I get into a lot of fights.
*Knock Knock Knock*
“Hmmm, must be Haru. Coming!”
I raced to the door to find Haru gasping and in tears.
“Haru, come in what’s wrong?”
“No! We have to go to the hospital right now!”
“What! Why? What are you talking about?”
By this time I was confused and Haru was crying even harder.
“Dad’s in the hospital, he’s in ICU!” Haru cried.
I pushed past him to get outside and grab my bike.
“What are you doing?” Haru questioned me.
“I’ll run, now go I’ll catch up.”
I only told Haru to take my bike so he couldn’t see me cry. When I made it to the hospital my eyes were swollen and my face was soaked, and Haru was crying again.
“Haru, what did they say?”
I didn’t like where this was going.
“He’s not going to make it. Dad’s going to die!”
I dropped to my knees I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I burst into tears. When I pulled myself together Dad’s nurse came to talk to us.
“Are you Hatori’s children,” She asked as sweetly as possible as if she knew what we were going through.
“Yes,” Haru answered.
“You can come see him for the last time if you like.”
I just nodded if I tried to talk I would just succumb to the tears again. We followed the short blonde nurse to intensive care, room 111
“There you go I’ll leave you two alone with him for a while.”
“Thank you nurse,” Haru answered.
“D-dad,” was the only thing I could croak out.
He slowly turned toward us, eyes barely opened.
“Heh never thought it would end like this right Kagura,” Dad joked softly.
“I’m sorry,” I said with tears rolling down my cheeks.
“Kagura what are you talking about? Don’t blame yourself for something I did to myself,” Dad argued with my apology.
“If I would stop getting into all those fights I would’ve never come home late I could’ve come with you! Who did this to you?” I couldn’t control the amount of burning tears flowing anymore.
“Okay I’ll tell you who did this… Akito Himori did, we are enemies I guess you could say, now I don’t want you two going out for revenge or anything got it?”
There was a knock on the door and it opened. It was the short blonde nurse again.
“Sorry but there’s a five minute limit for visits in the ICU. You should probably go home. We’ll call you with more news.”
“Thank you nurse,” Haru answered.
“I love you Daddy,” I was trying to fight back more tears.
“I love you too Kagura.”
“Bye Dad.”
“Bye Haru.”
“C’mon let’s go Kagura,” Haru pushed me along.
I waved while walking out the door but Dad didn’t wave back, he was already gone.
On the way home Haru walked with me, but left me to my thoughts. When we got home I raced to the garbage can in the kitchen, and fished out the note. I clutched it to my chest for a second and stuffed it in my back pocket.
“What was that?” Haru saw me stick the note in my pocket.
“N-nothing, go sit in the living room we need to talk.”
“Oh okay.”
I followed Haru into the living room and sat across from him on the floor.
“We’re getting revenge I don’t care what Dad says.” The subject was still and open wound and hard to talk about but we had to.
“Kagura you know I’m always behind you 100%, but are you sure about that?”
“Yes Haru I think it’s our duty as Hatori Uzumaki’s children to take revenge and kill his murderer.”
Our father, Hatori, was always a famous fighter and was known well through out Japan, well until we were born. Everyone in Japan was in shock that Hatori not one but two half mortal kids. After several months everyone forgot about the Great Hatori Uzumaki, but Dad didn’t care he loved us.
“But I barely know how to fight,” Haru sounded worried.
“I’ll train you and teach you everything Dad taught me, we’ll leave tomorrow morning.”
“O-okay, do you want me to help you pack?” Haru still sounded unsure.
“No.”
“Are you sure?” Haru was starting to annoy me.
“Yes, I’m your older sister I can take care of it and as your older sister I’m telling you to go to bed.”
“Oh okay night Kagura.”
We walked down the hall and I showed him to my room.
“Are you sure I can sleep in your room?” Haru asked.
“Yes I’m positive I probably won’t be sleeping tonight anyway. Good night Haru.”
“Night, Kagura.”
I shut my door and turned toward the one across the hall. I swallowed the lump in my throat and turned the knob.
It was my Dad’s room and I was never allowed in even as a 15 year old trained fighter. Dad always said there were too many weapons in there, but that’s what I needed for the journey ahead.
I found everything we needed for the morning, and in no time I had two book bags full of supplies by the door.
When I finally lay down on the couch it was nearly midnight and I was right I didn’t sleep at all that night.
When Haru woke up the next morning I was already in the kitchen cooking breakfast.
“Mmm, smells good!” I could tell his mouth was watering because mine was too.
“Heh heh I know how much you like my cooking and it won’t be this good on the road.”
“Is it ready yet?”
“Yup Haru, grab a plate and dig in,” I dug in too.
After we were done we were stuffed but we had to leave. I handed Haru a backpack and slung the other one over my shoulder.
“Kagura isn’t this backpack yours?” Haru asked me.
“Uh huh,” I answered him.
“Oh then the one you have is Dad’s right?”
“Yup,” I touched the strap and memories of our journeys came flooding back.
“C’mon Haru we need to get going.” I urged Haru on.
“Okay.”
