Chapter #5
Encounter in the Twilight
The agonizing slow walk throught the snowy forest took it's toll on the time. The once lovly, pale blue sky had now turned into a vivid golden yellow, and soon after a dark indigo. Little specs of starlight started dotting themselves in the darkening sky. The frost on the trees and rocks gleamed in the setting sun. And my breath was steadily becoming visble in the cold night's air.
"We need to the pick up the pace. The clan must be wondering what's taking a hunting party so long. The gathering party will leave without us." Diamondtail huffed.
I didn't care wither or not we'll miss the gathering. I was only concerned about Frostpelt. This cold air can't feel comfortable nipping her raw flesh. I'm also worried. The wind is blowing hard tonight. The smell of blood in the air will surely attract enemies to us.
Ice Clan dosen't have any enemies in particular to battle with, like Thunder Clan, Moon Clan, and Leaf Clan constant fighting over sharing what little territory they own by the fourth lake. But we are anxious about our neighboring enemy known as Sickle Tribe.
Sickle Tribe is mainly made up of Absols that lives farther south from lake Acurity than us. I'll admit that the tribe is somewhat similar to clans and surprisingly share most of the clans rules yet, they seem more hostile. To the tribe, maybe besides clan affairs, territory domination is their key goal to them than life itself. Despite the large territory they own, there selfish desire for more land has resulted to countless of times when they attacked and raided Ice Clan camp only to be driven out with numerous wounded or killed. Sadly, Sickle Tribes camp is too expertly hidden in the thick forest, that only breaks apart to form a narrow path leading towards the mouth from Mt. Coronet, so, a counterattack is pointless.
There was a time when Mirrorpelt was telling a tale to the pups about how one of Sickle Tribe's raids resulted in my father's death. That Cinderfang attacked any absol who came close to mother only to have been mauled by three absols in what ended in a gorey death for my late father.
It make me uneasy. Knowing that we're sitting Psyduck's to these heartless predators, with a tantalizing peice of meat tied around our necks. Sickle Tribe loves to hunt in packs despite their solitary nature, especailly onto our land. Remembering this brung fresh determination to heart. If Sickle Tribe did ambush us, we'll easily outnumuber them and send them running with their tails between their legs like the cowards they are. Only attacking in the cover of night, never in the open sunlight.
"How sad....Your poor mentor might die in the dark, snowy depts of this wasteland what your clan calls...home, I call a frozen hell."
I stood still, letting the hunting party walk ahead of me. "Who's there." I whispered when all sights of the clan disappeared into a bush. "Coward! Show yourself."
"...Your words hurts me like a thousand needles of light stabing my black heart." Two skinny arms seeped out of the shadows of the trees. A red light emitted. I...I...I remember this light. This evil red light. It was from that nightmare.
As the creature hovered closer, every detail became visable. A red collar sputted from his shoulders around his neck. He had no legs. His tatered black cloak and white hair flapped pensively in the up coming draft. And his eyes that glew bright red in the blackness burnt down to a cool teal color.
"W-who are you!" I managed to say. I tried my hardest but, my legs kept shocking unsteadily.
"Who am I?" He chuckled. "Such brave words coming from one who trembles before me. But I guess it can't be helped. How rude of me to not have introduced myself earlier. When we met in the realm of departed souls. I am the servant of hell, the prince of darkness, the master of fear, the RULER of nightmares! I am...Darkrai." Darkrai leaned closer and whispered. "Does that statified your curiousity, pup?"
"What do you want from me!" I snarled.
"Mossphase! Where are you?!" That was Articphase. Suddenly aware of my sudden disappearance, Articphase leaped out of the bushes and, stood before the prince of darkness himself. In the respect of me, Articphase jumped inbetween Darkrai and me. Snapping his jaws.
Darkrai merely chuckled into a scornful laugh. "It's fools like you who's soul ends up burning in the depts of hell at my feet! I only came to...purpose a request, if you may." He replied in a mischievous tone.
I stepped out of Articphase's shadow to stand once agian before the so-called "ruler of nightmares. "...What deal?"
"Mossphase!" Articphase muttered urgently under his breath. But I ignored his cries.
This was far to serious to pass up. At least hear him out. What 'request' did the 'the servant of hell' wanted from the likes of a small creature like myself? There was an uneasy smirk that gleamed in his eyes. "My request is simply. I wish to finish the deed to sacrifice your soul and serve under the darkness."
I stared at him in utter confusion. I have no idea what in the world this stranger was telling me. A contract with the darkness? The warning Regigigas explained to Articphase and me buzzed through my head like an angry Beedrill. About how the flow of darkness was disrupted the radicance of the stars and the moon. I glanced up at the dark sky, only a handful of stars remains. My first instinct was to snarl, "Never!" But I decided to remain calm. To get some answers out of him before I scream my head off. "...What contract?"
To my astonishment, Darkrai flashed a unexpected look of shock. Then he turn his head and murmured under his breath. His spoke low in the now silent opening. "...So she didn't tell you..." Then his sickingly laugh came to ear. "She's even more heartless than I expected. What a wonderful way to suffer."
"Who are you talking about...who's suffering?"
He smirked even more as he turned his head to face me. "I can still see your unsure wither to take up my offer so, I'll give you some time to think about it. And when I believe I've been given enough time...I'll be back." Darkrai then started disappearing in the shadows. "In the meantime...try to solve the unmentioned clue I'd just given you." And just like the early atumn sun, he was vanished into the setting gloom.
idea
Articphase never stopped questioning me even when we were approaching the group. About 'who Darkrai was' and 'what was he talking about?' It got so bad, that I ignored him altogether. The party never noticed we were gone, thank Star Clan. I let out a huge sigh of relief when the sight of the camp came to veiw.
The quickier we get Frostpelt to the Medicine den. The faster she can get her leg checked out. But the thing Darkrai said earlier still sticked in the mind, I still have no idea what he meant about a contract. And the fact that he knew something important that I didn't drove me crazy. So far, the explaination I've thought of is that someone created a contract about me and the darkness, but apparently, didn't finish it for some reason. Was it possible that that certain someone would happen to be in the heart of Ice Clan? Or maybe an outsider. Until I know exactly who it was, did that mean that I couldn't trust anyone? Not even my beloved clan?
