The Message
tab Nothing could stop her now. She had won him; he was hers. She could gaze upon his glory and beauty knowing that his hand belonged in hers, and his heart belonged to her. She had always wanted someone like him. Someone popular with a musical talent. Someone with great hair, dreamy eyes, and big, strong arms. Not to mention the gauges, 'cause they helped, too. Nevertheless, gauges or not, he was hers and she was happy.
tab It didn't last. She should have known.
tab She heard her cellphone vibrate and picked it up mindlessly, glancing down at the front screen to see who the sender was. It was him! Her face lit up as she flipped the phone open and began to read his message. Her heart stopped and her stomach turned. It read:
tab Hey,
I'm sorry to tell you this, but it isn't working out. It isn't you, and it isn't me. It's her. It's been her all along, and I am sorry for leading you on. I wanted to tell you this before it went any further. I wanted to tell you before you get hurt. Sorry, but I am not in love with you - I am in love with her. We can still be friends. I want to still be friends. I'll see you Monday on campus.
Love,
Me
tab Her hands began to shake as she read the message over and over again. There must be something she was missing, because this could not be happening. Tears welled up in her eyes the more she thought to herself that it didn't make sense. Everything had been going well, hadn't it? No. It hadn't. He had been distant, and his music painful with loss. He didn't sing of their love, but instead of missing her.
tab She slammed her phone shut and threw it across the room. A pained scream ripped from her throat into the emptiness of the house as she turned her tear stained face toward the ceiling. "Why, why?" She pleaded, feeling unloved and completely lost. She was well aware that she had hurt many men, and knew that karma would eventually get her good. But, why now? Why him?
tab With no answer, and no want for one, she laid down on her side and curled into a ball. Her body shook with sobs as she tried to cry herself to sleep. However, sleep never came and her reality stayed quite real for hours to come.
