• He held in his arms and pressed his lips softly against her forehead. They knew what was about to take place would part them forever and neither wanted to say it. She loved him too much to bare the thought of losing him in such a terrible way but, what choice did she have?
Luka ran his fingers through her soft red curls and sighed. How long would it be before he could do this again. Would he ever again know her touch or smell her skin? It hurt to much to say goodbye. He loved her and it would be to long again before he would hold her like this. Nira tried hard to let go. Knowing full well that she would love him not matter what he would become. His shaggy black hair glistened in the twilight. She didn't want him to turn back into his true form. A curse that would part them and leave her alone.
"Luka, tell me you will visit me. i know it seems pointless but, it would... it would mean a lot to me." she smiled and looked into his lavender eyes. She had come to know those eyes so well and now they would be the eyes of a creature she couldn't love.
"I promise." He stared back the emeralds that were her eyes. "I know you don't understand Nira but, I... I can't stay this way. I have to change back for I don't even know how long. I know it seems unfair for you to love a... monster... like me but I love you and I couldn't have stopped feeling like I do even if I tried." He locked his lips to hers and in a burst of light his touch faded.
Before her stood a wolf. Its black fur being a dark contrast against the pure white snow. His purple eyes bore into hers. She knelt and ran her fingers through his fur. It was soft just like his human hair. the snow soaked through her jeans and made her shiver. Luka nuzzled he face and licked her cheek. Nira giggled and sighed with heartache.
"So...I guess...this is goodbye?" Tears burned her eyes as she tried to keep them from spilling over her lower eyelids.
"Ruff!" Luka shook his head. He sat down on his haunches.
They sat in silence as the light faded from the woods in which the sat. She hugged his canine body and cried. when her sobs finally stopped she leaned back and kissed his nose. It felt wet and again she let out a small giggle.
"I love you Luka." She stood up and watch as he turned away from in lope into the heart of the forest.
As she walked home she tried to forget. At the edge of the wood A howl reached her ears. Then she knew what she would always know. She loved the spirit of the forest. Luka would always love her and she would never stop loving him. Maybe one day they would meet again and laugh at how they had parted last. Until then she would listen for his song in the night knowing it was meant for her.
