• Chapter One. The empty house on the hill

Abandoned. That’s the word that we all in the small town of ‘Willow Tree’ in Kentucky descibe Mr. Whitley’s old house. Mr. Whitley was the oldest man in our town and used to be the mayor in 1955 to 1995. One day in 1995 he went to the doctor due to him feeling sick to his stomach and coughing up blood. That day Mr. Whitley found out he had a form of cancer called lung cancer. For the next fourteen years he was put threw treatment after treatment. Now in the year of 2009 about two days ago they found him dead in his home. Soon the house was cleared out and abandoned. Now the house is abandoned and left with a looming sadness. The trees that was hiding the house was overgrown and the grass was cut short.
“Tori wait up!” my sister Sierra said. Her blonde curly hair bounced as she ran towards me.
“What?” I asked her while I moved my blonde hair out of my face. Sierra looked at me with sparkling green eyes and asked me, “Did you know that people are moving into that house?”
    “Yes why?”
“Well they are both boys around our age. And they’re going to start going to our school. I hear their brothers.”
    “Cool anything else?”
“Yeah I heard that they lived in England before they moved. And that their mom and dad got killed by someone so they moved here.”
    “Did’nt they have foster parents?”
“Yes, but they got killed too along with their foster brother and sister.”
“Wow I feel so sorry for them.”
“I know it’s like someone’s out to get them.”
“Sierra now let’s face the facts I don’t think that’s right, but it does seem like it.”
“I got a idea why not me and you go meet them?”
    “Yeah sure.”
“Okay then I have to go get something go on ahead.”
“Okay then see ya.” I looked at the stairs that lead to the front door and I began to climb them. The stone was rough and broken up and began to have weeds grow in between the cracks. When I reached the front door something inside of me told me to turn back. I pressed on and was going to knock on the door until I felt someone behind me. A hand was on my shoulder and I had chills run up and down my spine. The reason was because the hand was cold.
“Who are you and what are you doing here?” I heard the voice ask me. It was dark, soft, and had a lonely tone to it. I turned around and I saw a boy around my age. He had jet black hair fell in his face. He also had dark grey eye’s. They looked very lonely and hurt.
“I was- I came here to say hi.” I replied. He looked into my eyes and I was caught in a trance.
“Fine then hello. Now get out and stay away from here.” He said. I turned around and began to walk away.
“Wait don’t go!” I heard someone say. I looked around a blonde hair boy with green eyes looked at me.
“Um why I seem not wanted?” I asked.
“Well my brother he don’t like people coming near him,” He began, “Oh and I’m Brandon and this is Alexander.”
“Okay then hello Brandon hello Alexander.”
“Hi and what is you’r name?” Brandon asked.
“I’m Victoria Willow, but please call me Tori.” I replied.
“Cool hey Tori. And we call Alexander Alex or Al whatever you prefer. Wait are you a freshman in high school?” Brandon said.
“Okay then I’ll call him Alex. And yeah I’m a freshman.”
“Cool well me and Alex are having classes with you.”
“No you won’t! Look I don’t wont you to be my friend! Now stay the Hell away from me!” Alex exclaimed and walked away. Brandon sighed and said, “Look don’t take it personally Alex is just scared.” I looked at Alex as he walked away and asked, “About what?”

    Chapter Two. The reason

Brandon looked at me and then back at Alex. He looked down and sighed again.
“Before our mother and father died he was always near them with me. He loved them and kept them dear to him. When they got killed his heart tore apart and he cried for days to years. He thought if he keeps someone close to him they will be lost. So nowdays he never wants someone to get close to him like mother and father did.” Brandon said.
“So he keeps everyone away?” I asked.
“Yes, but I think you can help him.” He said. I looked at Alex enter the house and said, “I think I can’t.” Brandon smiled and said, “You can if you just figure out what makes him soften up. And no I don’t know what makes him less cold.”
“Well I don’t think that I can. I mean he hates me and he yelled at me.” I said. I remembered what he said and how it hurt my feelings.
The silence was long and Brandon began to walk inside the house.
“Hey wait I want to say hello!” I heard Sierra said behind me. She tripped and then Brandon ran over and got her.
“Well then I guess you tripped over that stone. I’m sorry me and my brother moved in here recently and we have’nt been able to clean up. I’m really sorry.” Brandon said.
“Oh it’s okay no big deal. I see you’ve met my sister Tori.” Sierra said.
“Yes I have are you two twins?” Brandon asked.
“No I’m a year older then her.” Sierra replied.
“Really that’s cool I’m a year older than my brother.” After that they talked about a lot of things and became best friends in a matter of minutes. I looked at the house and asked, “Bandon can I go in and see Alex?” Brandon looked at me and said, “Well you can, but be careful.” I nodded and said, “I will.” I opened the door and saw Alex sitting on a fabric tan couch with a black Ipod. He was blasting music and he was listening to “The kill” by Thirty Seconds to Mars.
“I love that song!” I said. Alex looked at me and then he frowned.
“Oh so you come onto our property without permission and then break into our house. Are you a criminal? I’m kidding well it is a good song.” He said while turning around and putting his white earbud’s back in his ears.
“Hey can I listen Alex?” I asked him. He shrugged and said, “If you steal my Ipod then no.”
    “And if I don’t?” I asked.
“Then you may come here.” He said. I walked over and he gave me his Ipod. I looked through it and he asked me, “Do you have a Ipod?”
“Yeah it’s the same as yours just a different color. Don’t laugh, but it’s neon pink. Do you want to see it?” I replied.
“Yeah sure and I won’t steal it.” He replied. I gave him mine and he sighed.
    “What?” I asked.
“It’s just like mine, except for the ‘Barbie Girl’ song.” Alex replied.
“Well I wanted it, but now I wish I could destroy the song.” I replied. He gave me back my Ipod and then jerked his earbub out of my ear.
“Okay now get out.” He said harshly. I got up and began to walk out. He came up behind me and I felt his hand on my shoulder.
    “What?” I asked him.
“I’m sorry, but just go. I know you know why I’m a jerk, but I’m not always like this. Please just go….” I turned around and his eyes were sad and he frowned as always. I turned back around and replied, “I know so I’ll go.” I walked out of the house and me and Sierra walked home. When we got home I threw my books in the corner of my top room and walked out onto my bedroom balcony. Sierra had a room like mine, but it was different colored. I fell asleep in my hammock I had outside by the wind.
The next day was the day that Alex and Brandon would start school with us. I was happy and somewhat worried. Brandon would fit in fine with everyone, but Alex he was different. He was mysterious and somewhat angry at almost everyone. When Brandon and Alex got their schedule Brandon had all classes with Sierra, and Alex had all classess with me. Everything went fine and dandy, until lunch time Alex snapped.
