ODIN WATCHED THE NINE WORLDS WITH HIS ONE EYE CLOSELY,
fearing the worst was to come. The wolves of Loki were beginning to feast upon the unfortunate people of Nidavellir, or the land of the Dwarves. They had no reason to fight back, seeing as how Loki was an Aesir God, but still, Loki betrayed the Norsemen who fought in his name. He betrayed Asgard and he betrayed his humanity. “Call the Valkyrie to me, young Thor.” Odin ordered. His son left, his eyes filled with distaste and anger.
“Why must I not warn the people of Midgard? It is only minutes before the wolves begin to feast on them!” Thor grumbled as he walked down the halls of Odin’s castle. “Odin has done nothing to prevent the coming end!”
“Yes he has, young God.” a voice called out to Thor, seeming very far away.
“What would you know about me or my father, Vili?” Thor asked angrily, glaring into Vili’s eyes.
“I am the brother of Odin and Ve, I know more about your father than you do.” Vili replied.
“Shut up! Why has Tyr not left for Nidavallir? Is he not foolish? He is the god of war, so he should be ending it” Thor shouted.
“Do not tell me to be quiet. It is obvious that you know nothing of Ragnarok, and the prophecies which Odin has foretold.”
“I know all of them, but what is the point of having these prophecies if they can be prevented?” Thor asked.
“Because they can’t.” Odin stepped behind Thor. “We all knew that Loki would try to end us as he became angrier at my decisions against his. We all knew that a betrayal was to be about.”
“I… I am sorry, father.” Thor replied.
“No need. I understand your anger completely. But look where anger has brought us, and look where peace has brought the Vanir? We may have the protection, but they have had no interference with Loki. They are too peaceful to interfere with war. We are now barely standing, and our walls are being breached.”
“Then send Tyr to defend us, damn it!” Thor shouted. “Or send me in with Mjolnir!”
“You and Tyr could do nothing! It is the Valkyrie who shall step in and save us.” Odin explained. “And it would have been nice if you mentioned to my brother that you were going to cal the Valkyrie back to me! Now go fetch them at once!” Odin was angry, his voice bellowing through the halls of his castle. Thor’s face red and his nostrils flaring, he left the hall.
“I think you were a little hard on the boy.” Vili said.
“He is too selfless. He wants to defend what he simply cannot.” Odin explained. “Now be gone, I must speak to me Valkyrie in private.” Vili left without a word.
Odin was in a deep sorrowful mood. His wife Frigg was missing and Ragnarok had begun. As humans might say, all Hell was about to break loose.
The first patrol of the Valkyrie flew in. Then the second, and the third, and hundreds more stepped into the great hall. Odin stood above them. They were ready to take orders.
“Where is Thor?” Odin asked.
“He has gone to his castle and taken Mjolnir from it’s case. He is to attack the wolves at Nidavallir before they can reach Svartaflheim.” one of them said.
That short tempered fool, Odin thought. “Nevermind that. I need you to help Thor defeat Loki and the wolves before they reach Midgard. If they reach Midgard, come back to Asgard. Bring no more chosen to Valhalla. Let them go to Niflheim instead.” Odin ordered.
“What is the point of that? The men who fall in battle should be honored with their journey and eternal stay in the battlegrounds of Valhalla.” A tall Valkyrie explained.
“If more chosen come to Asgard, the we Aesir are in more danger. Loki dare not attack Hel, for if he does, she shall banish him from the rest of the worlds, and Ragnarok shall end. Hel is just too powerful. Although I shall retrieve the fallen warriors when we end the end, if you understand. My son was right. Ragnarok is preventable.” Odin replied. With that, the Valkyrie spread their wings and soared away from Asgard. Odin had a frown on his face as he sat down on his throne. He slumped sadly in his seat.
“You can’t give a motivational speech when you yourself are not motivated.” Ve stepped in the hall and spoke to Odin.
“I know what you mean. But the Valkyrie need to at least help Thor before he dies. Chaos shall take over if they don’t.” Odin replied, still slumping.
“How foolish a brother may be.” Ve said. “Ragnarok may be a fearful time, but as you said, it is preventable.”
“How, Ve? How when a world already corrupt faces a cunning enemy?” Odin began to shake in fury, his single eye bright. “Fate cannot be prevented!”
“It seems that you have been stewing in anger for awhile.” Ve replied. “That’s not normal.”
“I am sorry, Ve. It is just that my dearest Frigg has been taken from Asgard and the protection of the Aesir. She was kidnapped, and the only clues to the kidnapper are the brown muddy wolf tracks circling the room.” Odin explained.
“Loki, you must fear. Problems cannot be solved when you lay around and sob, Odin.” Ve replied plainly.
“Wait… wolf tracks… call Tyr at once! FENRIR is to be released!” Odin knew the prophecies, and this could be the key to preventing Ragnarok itself. Fenrir was a giant wolf who was captured by Tyr and the Aesir long ago. As Ragnarok comes, Fenrir is to leave and return with the armies of Loki and fight the Aesir gods. Odin had to stop Fenrir from escaping.
He and Ve ran like the wind to the pen of the mad wolf. They caught sight of him, the ropes which kept him stable were breaking. Ve did not run to get Tyr, because Tyr was already there, trying to contain the mad wolf with its temper. “Tyr and I shall keep the wolf contained. Ve, go and get some of the special rope from the dwarves!” Odin ordered.
“Brother, Nidavellir is under attack. I can’t and I certainly won’t go into that battle!” Ve stated. Odin gave him a vicious glare, his fake blood red crystal eye gleaming in the moonlight.
“Go to Nidavellir, or I’ll feed your head to Fenrir, Ve. Do not defy my orders. That’s what got Loki into his messed up situation. Now go and get the rope!” Odin growled. Ve left without a word, depressed and scared.
“Father, what if he cannot retrieve the rope?” Tyr asked, holding one of the legs of Fenrir with all his might.
“Then all is lost.” Odin replied. He contained the muzzle of the giant wolf as he spoke, his muscles bursting with pain.
Ve was traveling through a gate towards Nidavellir when the gate ahead of him shook. The wooden door was a portal allowing him to travel through the worlds. If the gate closed, he would travel for eternity in an endless portal to nowhere.
The door was beginning to close, the light slowly dimming as the wood collapsed in front of Ve’s eyes. Although just as Ve lost all hope, a big muscular hand ripped the wood from its place and Ve appeared in Nidavellir.
“Get up, you scrawny little man!” he shouted. For a Dwarf, this man was gigantic. He was at least six feet tall and his body rounded and muscular.
“Who are you to judge me as such?” Ve asked.
“I am Gimring, general of the Belack Stronghold. I command the largest army of this world, and who are you to question my authority?” Gimring asked.
“I am Ve or the Aesir Gods, brother of Vili and Odin.” Ve replied. Gimring made no other expression. He still smiled cheerfully.
“Why does a god safe in Asgard come here to Nidavellir, where Loki is attacking with his wolves as we speak? How stupid the wise can be!” Gimring’s voice was deep and powerful. He chuckled and looked into Ve’s eyes. Ve had not realized that it had been a few seconds. “Why are you not replying? Do I have to ask again?” Ve awoke from his trance.
“I need the rope which your ancestors created. I and my peers are not safe as you might think.” Ve replied.
“Why should I give it to you when I could use it to tie up some wolves?” Gimring asked.
“Because Fenrir is the one you should be worrying about.”
