• CHAPTER ONE

Even though the sun was obscured by the overcast, it was still pretty bright outside. Tiny droplets of the drizzle sprayed my face, disguising the sweat that moistened my complexion.

Mr. McGarry’s whistle blared against my ear drums, and the screams of girls whining about their hair echoed across the football field. I simply paid no attention to it all, letting the cool rain drench me until my clothes were plastered to my skin.

My eyes trailed up to see that the field was empty except for me and a guy reflecting my blank stare. His faux hawk began to slump in the light storm, and his glasses mirrored my pale person. A deep, menacing rumble inside of my chest had me moving my feet into a walk, and later, into a sprint.

Before I knew it, I was lunging in the air, sharp claws and bared incisors locked on to him who just stood there like he was spellbound to the spot. The growl grumbling in my chest transitioned into a bloodcurdling snarl. However, it was cut short when my fangs broke through his skin. Sweet red elixir cascaded slowly down my throat. The cold touch of my bony fingers rasping his skin made him shiver.

Then, his weak voice slashed through the dead silence. The deluge of water suddenly halted to let the clouds depart for the sun, letting its heat scorch my skin.

His cheeks puffed up as he smiled. “It’s kind of ironic now, huh?”

There was nothing left but flames.
