• Chapter 4

“Feeling better princess?”, Helen asked, folding her arms in front of her chest.

    “Much.”, I answered her coldly.

“That’s good. Let me take a look at your head.” She grabbed my head and looked at the spot she had tended to earlier. “Well it’s healing nicely, it won’t leave scars, so you don’t have to worry about that pretty hair of yours.”

“Well thank you for doing such a wonderful job.”, I smirked up at her. There was something about her I just didn’t like. It was probably the way her sharp gray eyes seemed to look over me with disgust or the way they held mischief, like she was looking for a way to do wrong.

She snorted and looked around the room, as if someone were watching us. “You know princess, you won’t be here for very long.”

    “I don’t understand.”

“The king and queen have put you up for ransom”, she gave me an evil smile, “and I don’t think your mother and father are willing to pay the price.”

“What price would that be Helen?”

    “Their kingdom.”

Suddenly I was full of anger and I stood with my fists clenched so hard to my side my knuckles were bone white. “Those swine! I’d rather die than have the kingdom traded for my life, just to have one of their assassins murder me anyway!”

Helen looked taken back, “Well, you aren’t so dumb after all.”

I smirked, “No I’m not, my father and mother taught me very well. So you can tell your rulers to keep their threats, they won’t work, and if they want to kill me so badly, tell them to go ahead and get it over with!”

All she could do was stare, and after a minute she just left.

When she locked the door, I went to the bathroom and got Rian, he looked sick. “Are you alright?”

“No, I didn’t think they were going to kill you. I can’t let that happen. But if you try to escape, then you’ll die for sure.”

“Look, we’ll see what Helen has to say tomorrow. If they do decide to kill me then…. well we‘ll figure something out.” I smiled at him and hugged him around his neck. “Don’t worry.”, I whispered.

He pulled me closer to him by my waist and kissed me. He started trailing kisses down my neck and I put my hands on he chest to stop him. “Stop, you should get to your room before your parents figure out that you‘re gone.”

He sighed, “Alright. I love you Angel, try to get some sleep.”

    “Okay, I love you too.”

Rian locked the door behind him. So I walked over to the small pile of blankets and pillow. I was surprised, I figured they’d just make me sleep on the floor. I laid out a couple of blankets and crawled under the top one. I went to bed thinking of how worried my parents were.
