• I tapped restlessly on my worksheet, all too eager to get out of class. Mrs. Jefferson continued her speech on distributing equations, but everything she said just went in one ear and floated out the other. I clenched my fists; this was almost too much to bear. I could see his face clearly in my mind, happy, glowing with excitement. I sighed and began to chew the end of my pencil. When would class end so I could see him? Just then the bell rang and I leapt from my seat like a rocket. I sped out the door and towards my locker, where I knew he would be waiting for me.
“Hey Katy!” Tyler smiled happily at me as I skidded to a halt..
“Hi!” I said breathlessly. Just the sight of him caused my heart to flutter. To day he was wearing a red T-shirt underneath a white-striped jacket that totally highlighted his perfect face. His hands were placed inside the pockets of his jeans, and slowly one of them reached up to brush my face. For a moment I couldn’t breathe, and I’m sure my shock showed on my face, because he laughed and draped his arm over my shoulder.
“Let’s go lunch, shall we?” He gestured towards the cafeteria, where everyone else was headed.
“Uh, ok.” I managed to stutter, blushing feverishly. He smiled and we walked into the busy lunchroom, my head swimming. He only ever hugged or held my hand before. He had never made a move like that. The skin that he brushed with his hand still tingled with some electricity that I could not describe. All I knew was that I was happy. We sat down at an empty lunch table and began to eat. I munched on my tuna sandwich while he ate his PB &J. I watched him attentively between bites. Even as he ate he looked gorgeous! How did I end up with someone as amazing as him? I slid my gaze past him for a moment, and spotted Caitlin sitting with Christopher, or as most liked to call him Chris, chatting happily away with some of their other friends. It looked liked love had worked out for everyone.
That’s when I noticed Mikayla’s eyes staring angrily at the back of Tyler’s head. My smile faded a little, but I knew she couldn’t do anything about me and Ty. I quickly snuggled up against his shoulder, and I watched happily as she grimaced. Suddenly I realized who was sitting next to her; Kurt, her ex-boyfriend. What were they doing together? I watched carefully as Mikayla turned to him and gave him a kiss. And I am not talking your regular peck-on-the-cheek; I am talking full-on-the-lips-possibly-tongue-filled-making out. My mouth dropped open in shock, but Tyler must have noticed because he looked up at me and asked,
    “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, nothing…” I said quickly, bringing my attention back to him. He smiled.
“Alright, but if there’s anything up, I just want you to know you talk about it with me.” His eyes twinkled with sincerity. “I get you.” I hugged him and took another bite of my tuna when I realized why Mikayla and Kurt’s kiss had bothered me so much. Me and Tyler hadn’t kissed yet. Mikayla had somehow known that and was just trying to rub my nose in it, but her action was annoying all the same. I stared at Tyler’s face, his smooth features, and took a quick glance at his lips. Like the rest of him, they looked perfect, definitely kissable…
“Actually Tyler,” I started, still staring at his lips, “There is something that’s been bugging me lately.” I moved my hand absent-mindedly on the table, tracing patterns onto it’s gray surface.
“Yeah? What’s up?” He asked kindly, completely focused on me now. He was so devoted and committed to our relationship, I loved that about him.
“Oh, I just wanted to try something, just test a theory.” I said, leaning little closer to him, so little that it was hardly noticeable.
“Ok,” He said. “What’s your theory?”
“Nothing really,” I leaned in closer. “It’s just that I thought…”
“Thought what?” He asked, softer now. He was leaning towards me too, only a tiny bit, but more then before. His eyes stared deeply into mine, and I could feel a strange feeling setting in.
“Thought that…..you were…..would be…” I couldn’t focus on words anymore. Our faces were an inch apart, and I could smell his sweet breath, drawing me closer.
“A….good….” I closed my eyes, could feel the tingle of his lips nearly touching mine. “Kiss-“ But that’s all I could say before our lips met and we kissed. I could feel sparks exploding, blood boiling in my veins. He parted his lips, still kissing gently. I parted mine, and the feeling got stronger. I wrapped my fingers in his hair pulled him closer to me.
    Too close.
I broke away, slowly, so he wouldn’t think anything of it. He pulled back hesitantly and smiled.
“Wow.” He said softly. “You’re a great kisser.”
“I should say the same to you.” I took deep breaths, trying to control myself. That feeling, that feeling had pulled me closer, made me go so far. I didn’t know what to think of it until Caitlin popped up out of nowhere and hugged me.
“Congrats!!!” She whispered before rushing away to her table where I could see her explain everything in full detail to Christopher, who looked disappointed that he and Caitlin hadn’t kissed yet.
Standing, I tucked my lunchbox under my arm and shot Mikayla a glance. She was fuming now; her fists were clenched and she seemed to be shaking with anger. I tilted my head, smiled, and winked. Her eyes widened, but she released her hands and slid them under the table, and her enraged look faded to one of mild discomfort. Dragging Kurt by the arm, she lifted him out of his seat and pulled him away towards the lockers. I turned and realized that lunch had ended, and everyone else was moving back towards the classrooms as well.
“ Katy.” I looked up to see Tyler staring at me. “Are you OK? You were spacing out for a second.”
“Oh sorry.” I blushed. “I was just…thinking about something else.” He shrugged, and wrapped his arm around my shoulder, leading me back into the hall.
“See you later I guess.” He said, smiling softly. Leaning down, he kissed me again, this time only for a moment, then stood back up looking satisfied. With that he left, leaving me stunned at my locker. I sighed.
    “See ya.”
