• She sat alone in her room. She is frail and thin. She wears a hat to cover up what little hair she had. Her brothers had left her, for, visiting hours had ended. The doctor said she had 3 weeks to live. She was watching the 1988 movie, Grave of the Fireflies. She looked outside at the nighttime sky and watched the fireflies. She would catch them in a jar but, to her sorrow, they would die. When the fireflies died, she buried them in her flowerpot. After awhile, she stopped catching them but she left the window open so she could see them up close.
Toki was alone and frail and fireflies were her comfort. "Am I a firefly, too?" she would ask herself. She knew one thing about fireflies, they only lived for 3 weeks and that was the doctor said exactly how long she is supposed to live. A lone firefly flew into her room and landed in her finger. Toki was surprised but glad she had something to talk to.
"Hello, my name is Toki. You have a short lifespan and I have three weeks left to live. I'm glad you came to see me before both of our life spans end. May I wish upon you? I wish that we both had a much longer time to live because I don't like it when my fireflies die and I don't want to die either. I'll name you Supesharu Hoturu, that way, I won't forget you when we meet again." said Toki. The firefly stayed for 30 minutes before flying out of the window. Toki bid it farewell.
Toki's wish was granted. She lived past 3 weeks and her leukemia permanently left. While leaving the hospital, Toki met her firefly again and they went home together.
