Prologue: Don't Let Me Go
Tears slowly rolled down her cheeks as the young blond angel held her in a warm embrace.
Her head was tucked beneath his chin and his arms encircled her, giving her a sense of safety as she gripped his shirt for support.
She was afraid for him and he was afraid for her. The Council had a bounty on their heads and they were being hunted down like animals. They were lucky to have gotten away the last time they ran into the Council's agents. God knows what will happen if they show up again.
The girl suddenly let out a yelp of surprise when someone began pounding hard against the door with their fists, shouting for them to open the door or else and preceding to try to pry open the door and reach the couple, standing on the roof of the skyscraper in New York, when they were ignored.
The raven-haired girl looked up at the angel in worry, tears blurring her vision. "William-"
He gently placed a finger to her lips and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Don't fret, my love." He smiled reassuringly as he gently grasped her chin in the palm of his hand and kissed her passionately on the lips.
The sound of fists pounding on the door grew louder, but the couple paid no heed.
In an attempt to comfort his young love, William held her closer against him as she tucked her head back under his chin and he nuzzled his nose into her hair, taking in it's clean scent.
"I love you, Violet." He whispered, his amber eyes glowing bright as white-feathered wings sprouted from his shoulder blades, tearing two holes in the back of his black wool sweater. "More than anything." William smirked and tears ran down his cheeks as Violet grinned up at him, her gentle violet eyes meeting his. "I promise I won't let them hurt you."
Violet layed her head on his chest as his large wings began to encircle them, surrounding them with fluffy white. They closed their eyes as tears now fell down both their cheeks, smiles decorated on both their lips.
"I love you too, William. I don't know what I'd do without you." Violet murmured just loud enough for him to hear as their feet slowly lifted off the ground, his wings unfurling and spreading out as far as they could, flapping gently.
They rose high above the roof of the skyscraper, leaving behind the sound of the agents trying to get out onto the roof, but gradually they stopped rising and the cold night air blew gently around them, making Violet shiver lightly.
Violet's eyes slowly fluttered open and she lifted her head from William's chest and cupped his cheeks in her hands, gently kissing his eyelids, for he had yet to open them.
Black-feathered raven wings now protruded from her shoulder blades as William opened his beautiful amber eyes, their eyes locking in a loving stare.
He was an angel. She was a demon. An angel and a demon in love. A love that could never be; it's why they were running in the first place.
"We shouldn't." William whispered softly, still smirking.
"We can't." Violet whispered back, pecking him on the lips.
"But we are."
She paused for a second. "I don't care."
William chuckled. "And neither do I."
Black merged with white as their wings wrapped around each other to create a collage of black and white feathers around them, their wings moving perfectly with each other to shut out the world around them; no trying to overpower the other, no rejection to their union of light and dark.
"Don't move." William whispered as he leaned towards her, her hands falling to grasp his shoulders, and he kissed her, their bodies pressed against each other with no visible signs of space between them.
Violet kissed back just as passionately as he was, not wanting the last kiss they might ever share to end, her eyes closed in bliss as she wrapped her arms around his neck, tangling her fingers in his hair.
But they were completely oblivious to the real danger they were in as the sound of the door below being blasted off it's hinges was muffled by the wall of feathers surrounding them.
But only when William felt Violet being torn from his grip, did he realize the Council's agents had finally caught up with them.
