• I lay in bed wondering what’s ahead of me tomorrow. Although it is already tomorrow, I haven’t been able to sleep since last night. Sweat sticks to my thighs because I’m afraid of what will happen if I take the covers off. That’s my thing, worrying. Like a tiny dog I shake even when in my mother’s own arms. Do I dare look into the dark corner where secrets are hidden deep down? But the secrets are covered in ruffles, sparkles, and hearts. No one questions them. I just sit in the corner waiting for anybody to come up and ask for a dance. Just a dance is all. Why didn’t anybody ask? Why didn’t anybody question the missing shoes and torn dress? They didn’t care.

“You must’ve had a fun night.”
Smiles from cheek to cheek form, but no questions asked. What should I have done? Simply smiled back and said yes? I did neither of those. I stared at my brother, hating him. There was hate for the race that was a male, and pity for the race that had to watch out for themselves while going on a jog, or to the mall. I pity myself and all those around me.
