• Sometimes I wish:

The little girl stood in the doorway, her little blond pigtails slightly flowing in the breeze that circled throughout the room. She looked at the man washing dishes, wearing a suit, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

"Thomas come play with me." The girl said quietly almost in a whisper.
The man set a plate down in the soapy water, dried his hands off with a towel and walked over to the little blond haired girl. Resting on his knees he took her little hands in his.

"I can't play right now Ms. Elisabeth. I need to finish the chores your mother asked me to do." he paused and sighed. He looked at her little pink dress and smoothed out some wrinkles. "I can play after I promise."

"But I want to play now Thomas, you're always working. I thought you were here to be my friend" She said tears coming down her cheek.

"Elisabeth I'm here to take care of you, the house, your mother and father. I'm here so I can protect and take care of you." He said silently.

"No Thomas you're not. You're supposed to play with me. I miss spending time with you Thomas, now you're always busy and never around for me!" The little girl pulled away from him and ran outside. She sat on a tire swing hanging from a giant oak tree.

He sighed and grabbed a glass of water and went out after her. She looked away obviously frustrated with him. He smiled and started pushing her on the swing.

"What are you doing?" she said frustrated.

"I'm playing. What does it look like I'm doing?" he smiled and dipped his finger in the water, then gently stuck it in her ear"

"THOMAS!" She screamed giggling. "Stop it!"

"You know I love you Elisabeth. Right?" he kneeled down and hugged her tightly.

She said hugging him back, and whispered quietly. "I know.. and sometimes I wish you were my daddy."
