• Chapter 1
    Just Hit it

“Hold on!” She trilled in excitement for the guy which she knew was waiting for her behind the door. The door knob was cold on her hand and send chills up her spine as she turned it and tugged open the door.
“Shaun!” The smile on her face was bright with the endearment of adoration while the brunette male stepped into her home.
“Hey, you’re up! I was starting to think you slept in or something.” He laughed nervously which, the girl never noticed through her own nervousness toward him.

“Y-Yeah weird!” She smiled and shut the door behind him.
“I’ll be just a second I have to grab a few things.” She wandered off back into her room to gather her things while Shaun stood waiting. He had shorter brown hair and was taller than the girl, but not by too much. His stature was thin, but not more so than the girl and his eyes were a cool dark chocolate color that looked like you could just eat them
and he just gave a warm vibe that made you know he was a good person.

“Alright! Let’s go!” She returned to him smiling, carrying a medium brown bag on her shoulder. “Alice, are you sure you want to do this?” He asked her, looking careful but sympathetic. “Yes, I’m sure! I just want to see what all the hype is about.” Alice’s voice was always softer when she spoke to him, she made sure of that.

As the pair walked down the path of her large driveway Alice thought about the boy she was with, and what he thought about her. Her mind told her all kinds of things she could say to break the emptiness which had only the occupant of their footsteps on the cement as they crossed through the high school they went to during the ordinary week days. After walking through the school they made it to the stop light, which connected to the park they intended on heading to, but not just across the street, into the woods of the park where there were trails and a small bridge they were going to sit beneath.

“So you know I’m going to do this wrong right?” Alice questioned shyly.
“It’s okay! You’ll be fine.” His reassurance didn’t exactly help much but it was sweet that he tried, he usually tried to calm her down like this. But today was different from usual, considering they were doing something illegal today.
“So… What do I do?” Alice cleared her throat after speaking and chose where she would sit as they reached the underside of the park’s wooden bridge.
“Just relax.” His voice was smooth and calm, letting the words rush through her chest, somehow it made her more nervous than she already was. Her chest felt heavier with every breath she took and her heart lighter as if to lift her away from the weight of the body she was trapped in.
As Alice sat and let thoughts run her actions Shaun slid his backpack off of his shoulder and set it carefully on the ground. Alice didn’t recognize the objects he pulled from the bag but she watched carefully as he starting putting substances into the object.
“Once I’m done packing it I’ll start it off okay?” He smiled at her and continued what he was doing. Her eyes shifted to the ground, as if searching for some invisible condolence to her stress and ridiculous nerves.

‘Why am I so nervous?’ Alice asked herself considering that she knew Shaun would protect her and keep her from doing anything too stupid when she wasn’t sober. Shaun had turned to Alice with his usual warm flat smile and spoke to her in a tone that was a syrupy sweet to her bitter ears.

“It’s okay.-” He started, taking her hand in his as the dark chocolate of his eyes collided with the stormy sky of hers. “-I won’t let anything happen to you.”
At that moment she questioned to herself if he had read her mind, but quickly brushed off the possibility as he rarely ever said the right thing in situations. But this time he knew exactly what to say and that had made her smile instantly and let out the giggle she hated so desperately as it sounded like a chipmunk in her opinion.

Shaun didn’t stop smiling and he squeezed her hand and gave her the strange object he had put that substance into and right then she noticed his eyes were reddening. He was already getting high. So she rolled her eyes and took the object, surprisingly inhaling and using the device properly the first time, at least it looked like it to her.
